I'm sorry this felt like a scam. I understand seeing a $49 line item on your bill was alarming. Shopify's Billing team confirmed with both of us that no charge was ever collected because payment had failed. This was made clear by them before you left this review. A refund cannot be made for a charge that was never collected, and an app credit was issued instead to cancel out the line item. Glad it's resolved on Shopify's end.
