The Poop Coffee review for Early Bird: Preorder & Restock
Dec. 15, 2024
"Your products are marked as unavailable for the Buy Button channel." "Error enabling availability. Try again" Here is a direct quote from the two week Shopify investigation into a full lost week of sales in the lead up to Christmas (aka the best time for ecommerce in the year): "The issue you encountered with your store was related to the Early Bird app. As previously shared, based on our logs, this is the only app that was installed and modified your product. This app changed the subscription settings for your product, which affected its availability across different sales channels, including the Buy Button channel." THIS APP IS MALWARE - STAY AWAY FROM IT ONE DEFINITION OF RANSOMWARE: "a type of malware that permanently blocks access to the victim's personal data unless a "ransom" is paid." Didn't work as required, changed all my product settings (without me knowing) and when I uninstalled it found a way to make the settings permanent and cost me way more in sales by disabling customer checkout and payments than it promised to make unless I signed up to their subscription even though it doesn't bloody work.
Hi, Jay here - Early Bird co-founder and dev. I wanted to clear the air about the demonstrably false and defamatory remarks here. Our app is definitely not malware or ransomware, especially considering its Built for Shopify status and past history of glowing reviews and merchant experiences. To address the claims directly and give some context: 1. Early Bird never makes changes to product settings unless you opt-in. You must be the one to action this. When you activate pre-orders, there is a checkbox you must tick to confirm you understand and agree before you proceed. We mention this in several places throughout the app and our emails. 2. Shopify require changes to your product settings for you to run pre-orders (this is true for all pre-order apps). We immediately revert these changes when turning pre-orders off. This merchant uninstalled Early Bird but never turned pre-orders off, so their product remained configured for pre-orders. 3. We emailed them instructions on how to revert these changes with a single click (which they opened and read). This can be done on the Free plan of our app and requires no payment or subscription. The merchant did not follow those instructions or reply to us. 4. They emailed us a few weeks later making the same false claims they made here. We replied with additional step-by-step instructions, and asked for suggestions of how to make the opt-in info more prominent, but received nothing but defamatory statements back. They clearly have no interest in understanding or resolution. 5. We have already contacted Shopify about their UX regarding purchase options, as the fact you have to re-install a pre-order app to turn this setting off on your products is something they've changed recently on their end, and we can't control this. Again though, you can do this on our Free plan. You do not need to pay anything. Setting up a Shopify store for the first time and learning how the platform works can be tricky and frustrating for merchants. Having run our own stores - we totally understand. But it’s not fun to be slandered publicly either. We pride ourselves on our above-and-beyond support and thoughtful app design. We’re always happy to chat about app setup or pre-orders in general if anyone has any concerns. We stand behind our app’s UX and functionality and will continue to maintain the high standard we set for ourselves regarding full transparency and an opt-in approach when making changes to products on behalf of merchants. Thanks, Jay.
