Review update: My account is now active after 2 weeks of trying to figure out what was going on, thanks to Google Support for the help. For anyone that is installing this App to get on GMC BE CAREFUL WITH THE SETTINGS ON INSTALL. Pay close attention to EVERYTHING you put if you’re not sure ask Gemini. - If you’re ONLINE STORE ONLY (with no physical stores) make SURE to: 1. DISABLE Local Listings when setting up your Google Merchant Center (GMC) on the Shopify - Google & YouTube App before you continue to install. 2. DO NOT link your GMC to a Business Profile (Linking it to one is considered as “you have a physical location, even if the address is hidden on Google). 3. Triple check every single step, for me it skipped the most crucial one checking it as done by default. 4. Make sure all your products have the category metadata (at the bottom of each product, mainly age group is an important one). 5. Once your GMC is created, MAKE SURE to check the Business Information on GMC and fill everything up. Yes, everything. There’s no warning and it’s pretty hidden, save yourself weeks of frustration and follow this advice if that’s your case. - If you have been suspended due to Misrepresentation: 1. Create a Google Payments Profile. Add your information and payment method (save the page as you’ll need it later). 2. Create a Google Ads account and link it to your GMC. 3. If you get a “we couldn’t verify your information” from Google Payments Profile, go back to it and verify your identity. If you didn’t get #3 then: - Contact support directly from GMC telling them that you’re trying to verify your identity on Google Payments Profile. (Will take a few days). - Make sure your website complies with EVERYTHING it asks you, read the Misrepresentation policy and go one by one. They want to see transparency so yes that means you need to show Google you’re not hiding your contact information, you have a secure site, etc. Once you have verified your identity through Google Payments Profile you can request a review (just to be extra safe make sure to contact Google Support from GMC before you do so they can point you in the right direction). It’s complicated not going to lie, but hopefully you save yourself days/weeks because you read this. Suggestion to Google for this App: - The installation steps need to be streamlined, I had to go to 4-5 different Google services when everything should be able to be done from the App itself… - The instructions need to be clear, depending on the seller you can or can’t do certain things. - Make the identity verification easier, it’s not clear and you end up contacting Google Support because the Docs are not 100% accurate (my Google Payments Profile did not ask for verification until days later of creating the account). - Make clear what someone has to do when they’re an online only business, or online + physical. It’s not clear that linking a Business Profile will cause issues when you’re online only. - Make it clear how to resolve issues when a GMC has a violation such as Local Listings, step by step of how to fix it. (For example: Removing the Add-ons, Data Sources, etc.) - Make the App able to pull the site map and setup / verify the domain name directly on the App as an optional step, this is super important for indexing, every store needs to have their site map on Google Search Console. It’d be good to have it create a profile automatically if one is not found (the domain is not claimed). In general the UX needs a lot of work, needs to be streamlined. I’m thankful for the help and that my account is now approved, however I’m giving this App 3 stars because it’s way too complicated and not clear when something goes wrong.
