Sorry for the confusion! To clarify, the PageSpeed score was so high because someone had added code to trick PageSpeed into reporting that the site is faster than it is. The code was deliberately hidden so it's hard to find, but it checks if PageSpeed is looking at the store and won't load some of the website if it is. Unfortunately, fooling PageSpeed like this doesn't help with SEO or conversions. Only actual load times matter for search rankings and sales. This code makes the site slower as it uses outdated JavaScript that blocks the page load. This technique is called cloaking and can result in penalties from Google. Shopify also warns against these practices in their article here - https://performance.shopify.com/blogs/blog/don-t-get-scammed-by-fake-performance-experts-and-apps We cleaned up this deceptive code from the theme in order to actually speed up the store and to ensure Google does not penalize it. While this meant that the PageSpeed audit scores dropped, this is because the real speed was being shown, and not the fake score.
