Why We Have Exiled the "Isonomy" App We recently made the decision to remove the Isonomy accessibility widget from our storefront. We believe our customers deserve to know why: A Principled Stand: This app was originally a free tool designed to help disabled individuals and protect small store owners. Following a recent buyout, the "spirit of service" was traded for a pay-to-play scheme. Documentation that was once public is now gate-kept behind forced sales meetings and Calendly invites. Predatory Pricing & Ghost Users: The pricing model shifted overnight from free to a monthly fee plus nearly a dollar per user. We immediately noticed impossible spikes in "widget users"—claiming 700 people were using the tool during periods where our site traffic didn't even come close to those numbers. We refuse to participate in a system that appears to inflate data to justify exploitative billing. Broken Development: Despite marketing "new features" like custom triggers, the software is fundamentally flawed. Even when setting a custom trigger, the original icon remains un-hidable—rendering the customization useless. We believe this reflects a move toward incompetent, outsourced development driven by executive greed rather than user experience. Privacy & Ethics: We suspect these "Free ADA Audits" and tracking widgets may serve as fronts to monitor sites for non-compliance, potentially creating a database for future litigation. We will not allow our site to be a part of that ecosystem. WAR for the ADA: We are choosing human connection over predatory code. We can see right through these tactics, and we choose to exile them from our business.
Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We take all reviews seriously, and we'd like to address a few points for clarity. In regards to pricing – Isonomy has always had a very generous free tier, and our pricing is very clearly outlined before installation. We have not had a "buyout" – our team is still the same, and our mission to make accessibility affordable for Shopify merchants has not changed. In regards to widget user counts – these are very accurately tracked based on unique visitors who have interacted with the accessibility widget on your storefront. We would be happy to take the time to explain to you how this data is collected and verified. We have no reason to inflate these numbers – we are trying to build trust, not break it. In regards to the custom trigger feature – we appreciate this technical feedback and would have loved the chance to work through this issue with you. Our support team is always available and will respond within hours. The idea that we are using audits to build litigation databases is simply not true. We are a software company and are dedicated to helping merchants achieve compliance – full stop. We are sorry that we were not given the chance to work through these issues before this review. Our door is always open if you would like to reconnect. Best regards, The Isonomy Team
