The Artists Quarter review for StockEye Inventory Management

StockEye has been an absolute breath of fresh air. I still think it was criminal that Shopify decided to discontinue Stocky. For businesses like ours that genuinely relied on it for day-to-day stock management and purchasing, Shopify left a pretty significant hole when they killed it off. The only good thing to come from that, as far as we're concerned, is that it led us to StockEye. And having now worked with Ross and StockEye, I actually think StockEye is becoming better than Stocky ever was. One of the biggest reasons is that StockEye has been created by a Shopify store owner for Shopify store owners, and that shows immediately. Ross understands the problems because he actually deals with them himself. This isn't software created by somebody sitting in a development office imagining how an ecommerce business might operate. It's being built by somebody who understands what happens when orders are coming in, stock goes negative, suppliers need ordering from and purchase orders need to work in the real world. We've had some quite specific requirements within our own business, particularly around negative inventory and purchase ordering, and Ross has been superb. Instead of telling us, "That's just how the app works," he's listened to how we operate and what we're trying to achieve. We've worked with him on automatically identifying products that have gone into negative stock and need ordering, using the Shopify Vendor field properly, improving the way incoming stock is shown, and making purchase orders more useful for the way we actually place orders with suppliers. We've even discussed details such as being able to sort purchase orders by our supplier product references. These might sound like small things, but when you're actually running a busy Shopify business every day, they're the things that make the difference between software that technically works and software that genuinely saves you time. And Ross doesn't just listen to feedback. He actually does something with it. We've suggested changes and improvements and watched them get incorporated into StockEye. There's none of the usual experience of submitting a feature request and watching it disappear forever into some mysterious development roadmap. The personal service has probably impressed us just as much as the app itself. You're dealing with Ross directly. He knows who you are, he remembers how your business works and he understands what you're trying to achieve. There's no endless succession of support agents, scripted answers or feeling that you're simply another ticket number in a queue. It genuinely feels like you've got somebody working alongside your business and helping to develop the software around the needs of the people actually using it. That is incredibly rare in the Shopify app world. Shopify discontinuing Stocky was incredibly frustrating at the time, but strangely it may have done us a favour because otherwise we might never have found StockEye. StockEye is already doing what we needed Stocky to do, while Ross is continuing to develop and improve it based on feedback from real Shopify merchants. Five stars without hesitation. StockEye is a fantastic app, but just as importantly, Ross is exactly the sort of developer you want behind an app that becomes important to your business. I genuinely wish more Shopify app developers could learn from this approach: understand the problem, listen to your customers, respond personally and build things that make running a real business easier. A Shopify app built by a Shopify owner, for Shopify owners. That's exactly how it should be.
