Accessibility Spark ADA & WCAG

Tabbed through the whole site myself before and after. Focus order actually makes sense now, our mega menu was a trap before. Page speed didnt move which was my main worry. The monthly writeup from Spark is short enough that i read it. Id like a way to skip our wholesale pages from the scan.

So far its been a solid addition. Knowing something checks the site each day means one less thing on my mind, and being able to fine tune the colors so they stay readable was a nice touch. Two things for the team, throw in a few ready made theme presets, and a walkthrough for first timers would help.

Running a small shop means i wear every hat so anything that takes work off my plate is a win. The tabbing and keyboard stuff got sorted without me touching code which was a relif. I also get a rundown each month telling me where I stand and it flags issues before they become a problem. Being able to teak the fonts and spacing helped older customers too. Wish the dashboard felt better on my phone.

From a build standpoint the keyboard nav tweaks it makes are clean and they didnt break my theme, which I half expected. The ongoing monitoring against the WCAG criteria is the part I keep coming back to. One request, let me preview the changes on a staging copy before they go live to customers.

My nephew set it up for me but honestly I could have done it myself once I saw the menus. The monthly reports land in my inbox and I can actually understand them which is rare for me and technology. I like being able to flip the layout around for folks who read differently, and having a real certificate to show matters. Would love more little how to videos though, and maybe someone to call when im stuck.

What sold me was how it reads out my product photos on its own, the image recognition is smarter than I expected. I also like getting the daily checks so I know nothing broke overnight.

The color and display options were the first thing that won me over, everything matches my brand now. Keyboard navigation actually works the way it should and the compliance statement gave me peace of mind with all the legal stuff. Only thing I wish is that the plans were a little cheaper for small shops like mine.

Setup was painless and the compliance statement page generated automatically which our legal advisor was happy about. The interface where customers adjust their own preferences works well on desktop. Two requests from me: please add more language options for the user facing widget, and an option to position the trigger button on the left would help our RTL stores a lot.

My mum has low vision and tested our store with the contrast and font size options. She said it was the first online shop she could actually use without zooming her browser. That meant a lot.

Look I'm a developer by trade and I'm usually skpetical of anything that promises to make a site compliant just by installing it. But after going through the audit report myself and checking what it actually does on the front end, I'll admit its impressive. The keyboard nav adjustments are well implemented and dont interfere with our custom theme. Documentation could be way better honestly, had to dig around to figure out how to whitelist certain elements.

UPDATE: After the original 1-star review was posted (see below), the team did reach out to me and really took care of everything super quickly and with white-glove service. The app itself has been functioning perfectly, so totally worth giving this a shot. I've been in touch with the team and they promise that they've fixed the response time for folks in the future. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Been trying to reach someone at customer service with this app for over 2 weeks and no one ever gets back to us. We've tried the form page and the chat function within in the app. Was super excited based on all of the really great reviews, but this has been the worst app experience we've ever had.
