That default-to-1 behavior on multi-variant products is one of the most common complaints we hear from people switching over, and it's why presets work the way they do: set the mapping once, reprint the whole collection without re-checking every variant. We test presets against Brother and Zebra models specifically, because "preview matches what comes out of the printer" sounds obvious until it isn't.
