Mechanic

I feel slighted because I can not give 10 stars.. If you have any engineering background and simply need to customize anything within Shopify, this is a MUST HAVE. Their slack channel is completed loaded with extremely professional developers who eat and drink the cool-aid that is MECHANIC!

This is a must have app if you are looking to automate the most repetitive and boring tasks in your store. The support and community are amazing. The only limit is your creativity.

Mechanic has allowed us to automate plenty of tasks easily in our store, and to tweak these tasks to fit our unique business logic needs. We easily and quickly find solutions and the "out-of-the-box" solutions keep growing as well. We use a host of apps, but if we were limited to one, this app would be my choice, hands down.

I love this app! It does SO many things! My favorite feature is the "accept maximum amount of orders per day" and it resets every day! It has brought me so much peace of mind! Everything this app does is so helpful! Love it.

Truly amazing app! To have access to Shopify's API without having to host an app ourselves is truly a gamechanger!

(March 2025 Edit: 4+ years on and Mechanic is serving us as well as ever. You couldn't ask for a better partner for your Shopify store!) It's rare that I feel passionate about a Shopify App, let alone any app at all. Mechanic however—I'm in love . Shopify has incredible API support, but it can be challenging to make use of the APIs to their fullest, even for a seasoned developer. Even if you have the skills, you still need to build your own application to make use of the APIs, worry about choosing a build environment, hosting, deployment, maintenance, downtime, and all the other stuff that comes with a custom solution. Alternatively, you can use an automator/integrator like Zapier, but then you're limited to the functionality that the automator platform chooses to expose. Mechanic removes all that, and give you access to the full power of Shopify's API's, all using the familiar language of liquid that so many of us developers work with day in and day out. It used to be that if I needed a small custom solution for one of our shops, I would spend days trying to remember how to set up a Ruby environment, get it hosted on Heroku, get webhooks working, and then have a barely working application that did just that one thing and nothing else. Since using Mechanic for the past half-year, I honestly don't think I'll ever build a custom Shopify application again. Mechanic has empowered to me to create all kinds of solutions for our business that I never even considered attempting in the past—the barrier to entry was just too high. With Mechanic, I can just write a task to do whatever I want, and best of all, *have fun doing it.*

When I first came across this app I did not realize it’s full potential. It has helped us to create very powerful tasks which otherwise would have been either very expensive to develop or would have required multiple other apps. Mechanic combines it all and does so with an extremely easy and adaptive interface. But the best part is the community. It is super easy to find great help and post jobs if you’re stuck on a task. Mechanic must be the best app on this App Store.

Great app with tons of useful utility to lessen the tedium of running an online store. Response to customer support is timely and helpful. Great all around.

Finally, an App that actually works. After trying many solutions and discovering they fail silently, only do 50% of the job, or just won't work, Mechanic was a breath of fresh air. I'm so glad to have found Mechanic. The team has the right attitude, response, and a product that actually works, unlike half the other stuff out there.

Very powerful app that allows you to modify the functions of Shopify. I'm able to automate so many things with just this 1 app that does almost everything.

I mainly installed this app to help manage my orders for my handmade items. I am limited to how many I can take per day, but with a large inventory it’s impossible to be manually monitoring and deactivating (plus this leads to enquiries ‘wHy CaN’t I oRdEr’, because FAQs are obviously just there for fun!). Plus it’s impossible to monitor when you are sleeping I use the task which limits daily orders and had a number of back and forths with Isaac to get this set up. He was extremely patient and thorough with me, and I now have a store that is perfectly self managed! Can’t recommend enough!

This is by far the best app on the shopify app store. Literally never looking back after this. Think about it as a magical automator that can do pretty much everything Shopify can't out of the box. No need to learn code, but it is entirely possible to learn by doing. So many tasks already written, it's easy to pick up stuff that works an apply it to your use case. 11/10

This app is AMAZING! I could never go back to using Shopify without it, and I am not a Shopify developer really I just know a little C++ and Python. My company uses Mechanic to automatically print orders, add free gifts to orders as part of promotions, automatically update our iContact mailing lists with Shopify customers... the use cases are endless! And the team at Lightward is soooo helpful, they are quick to respond to requests and always provide ample information and development support. Developers: GET IN THE SLACK CHANNEL! It's awesome how much help you can get and how friendly people are. I was reluctant to do it because I'm clueless when it comes to Liquid, but being in there earlier would have saved me tons of time and they are really really nice to beginners. Just give it a shot, you'll love it!

With Mechanic the possibilities for customization of your Shopify store are endless. Developers in their Slack channel are responsive, reasonable and pleasant to work with. Also the documentation at docs.usemechanic.com is invaluable if you're new to Liquid.

We were able to work with a developer from the Mechanic community, to achieve our needs with the app. We used the app to create 4 tasks that trigger events to send our customers emails letting them know of shipping delays on pre-ordered items. Love that the app can sync with Klaviyo.

Bar none, the best app for Shopify! Mechanic has been the single most important app that has allowed us to diversity our product and service offering, monitor order progress, communicate with customers and shift our business to a more online and COVID conscious platform all while saving us money! Mechanic has allowed us to clean up our apps by consolidating entire suites and eliminating multiple single focused apps. Mechanic has greatly improved our communication with customers and facilitated delivery of digital services to customers. Mechanic gives us the ability to tag and therefore track orders, customer behavior and products automatically. Mechanic also helps enormously with internal communication with automatic emails that have fully customizable templates using liquid variables. These are only a few of the amazing features of Mechanic, but are enough to make it more than worth it. Mechanic is so powerful and helpful, and I believe we have only begun to scratch the surface. It is very easy to use and very intuitive but also allows for much, much deeper customization with a little bit of coding knowledge. I recommend Mechanic for any store and highly recommend that it be the first app that is installed. I only wish we had discovered it sooner. Mechanic is the kind of app that takes advantage of the Shopify platform fully. A store can and should build itself around Mechanic. Lightward has been great supporting us and our store and a team that you can feel really good about supporting!

This app is the single best app you can get for your Shopify store. Adds Plus levels of functionality, with a second-to-none level of support. If you can't do something in Shopify, you can probably get mechanic to do it for you. Highly recommended.

This app is amazing! I was able to create 3 automations exactly as I wanted: 1. Send reminder emails to pending payment orders 2. Cancel orders after 4 days of not being paid 3. Send payment received to our manual payment methods after the payment has been received. The support team on slack is fantastic. They helped me solve an issue when creating my automation. Really worth the money.

It's been great to do some minor things without need for a backend. Since we actually have 4 separate Shopify stores, it will probably be inevitable that I eventually connect all our separate instances to a unified backend to ease maintenance overheads, but using Mechanic has saved me some time and priorities to get up and running quickly and to figure out the additional business logic we need. Help and support was also exceptional. Super friendly and approachable, they have a Slack channel where I've learnt more about how to use the plugin and see others' inquiries and solutions.

An absolutely stunning app. Already consolidated 4 apps down into just this one and with extra functionality on top! Great cost saver. I was originally looking for a way to email a customer automatically when an order is automatically tagged as SpecialOrder. This app did that and more including emailing customers who placed orders on eBay to tell them about our main website, pushing out of stock products to bottom of collections, automatically tagging instock/out of stock/sale and not sale items, emailing us when a customer places 2 or more separate orders so we can combine and save shipping, adding eBay usernames to tag so can be searched in orders tab, automatically emailing customer for pre-orders and more! I highly recommend scrolling through all 250+ tasks already in this app on the main website, I was literally smiling as I found more and more useful tasks and realising I can remove some paid apps (That cost even more than this one!). This app is perfect for even those with limited coding/liquid experience, every task has a simple config area and you can always click to show the full code that is being done if you need to tweak small bits to suit your business. The support is great as well, quick replies and additions or updates to current tasks means checking back you may find a new or updated task that suits your use or improve one your already using. Seriously cannot recommend this App enough, cant believe I didn't find it sooner.
