Hi, Thanks for your feedback. The option to choose a gradient is actually designed so you can use both solid colors and gradients. If you'd like a solid color, just select the same color for both sides of the gradient - this will display as a single solid background. All customization options are built inside Shopify's theme extension, and we're limited to the controls Shopify provides. We chose the color_background controller because it supports every scenario in the most reliable way.
