Caution for merchants using frequently updated themes. SparkLayer’s installation method is intrusive: they download your theme, inject code, and re-upload it as a manual file. This effectively kills the official Shopify 'Update' path. When your theme developer releases a fix or new feature, you can't update automatically because Shopify no longer recognizes the modified version as a marketplace theme. Support’s answer was dismissive, suggesting I 'update a clean version and they’ll reinstall', which completely ignores the custom Liquid/CSS work already done on the SparkLayer version. Unless you want to be stuck in a manual update loop or lose your custom improvements, stay away.
