Xero
The reviews for the Shopify App are overwhelmingly positive, with users praising the excellent customer support provided by the team, particularly mentioning Jam and Danica Mae Mañalac. Users found the setup process to be easy and quick, with seamless integration between Shopify and Xero. The app has been described as a time-saving tool that streamlines the reconciliation process between the two platforms. However, there were some concerns about clarity regarding whether the integration was free or paid, but the prompt and professional response from the customer service team resolved this issue effectively.
On the older app, your customer's purchases and taxes wrote directly to the chart of accounts you assigned, now they don't. The new Amaka third party vendor that Xero uses to handle the shopify integration has completely broken my existing Chart of accounts. The new Amaka 3rd party integration Xero uses broke my existing chart of accounts mapping and now I have two different mappings to deal with for my COAs. In regards to all shopify store apps, I have learned about them the hard way, as the 3rd party apps are not very good for the most part. In my opinion and experience, 99% of the apps in the shopify app store are a complete scam, because shopify support has told me on multiple occasions that they do not vet validity of ANY vendor that writes apps for the shopify store. The vendors just have to meet technical requirements for the apps to function in your shopify store. Do not trust ANY app in the shopify store. Reading reviews on social media is a WASTE OF TIME. A lot of these legacy companies are playing catchup when it comes to AI integration due to how embedded they are in legacy systems operations. Newer companies that are building their systems around AI development are going to be the vendors that survive, but regardless, shopify does not vet the validity/integrity of the vendor publishing an app to Shopify's app store. Use at your own risk.
Marty was super proactive in getting us online within our go live schedule. Appreciate the knowledge and help.
I found the integration pretty easy to setup. After signing in to Xero and Shopify all I had to do was map my GST tax rate in Shopify to the corresponding tax rate in Xero and then map the bank account that Shopify was linked to. I was hoping I could go back and sync data to start on 1 Jan but looks like I need to organise a support call for that.
Completely useless if you use basic cash accounting. The old integration worked perfectly - why the change I have no idea but it has now ruined mybooks and I've had to disconnect the app. This new app will only sync data AFTER you have fulfilled an order - NOT when you're paid (which is required for cash accounting principles). This meant that my VAT return was ruined, my bank reconciliation was ruined, and well my entire accounting in xero was ruined. The solution from Amika or whoever runs this integration was to simply mark all my orders as fulfilled... yet anyone with a brain knows that then completely blows up your order management as you have now lost all ability to track which orders are still open and which are still waiting to be shipped. Perfectly fine if you run a business without physical product - completely useless if you run a business with a lead time of even 1 day. Hopefully someone at Shopify reads this and understands how stupid of a change this is.
It sound so simple!! I was already using an app but this one was included with my xero sub so I tried it. Where do I start!! First of all your their response time was terrible and it they only responded in the dead of the night. I mean its a NZ company so have support in our timezone!! Secondly support did not explained what they actually wanted from me!! Thirdly they should have collaborator access to fix these issues with you clearly cannot do!! They clearly don’t understand how business works. Their references should just be the Shopify reference. It doesn’t need to be a string of bullshit and transactions should sync on the day of the transaction immediately like other apps do irrespective of if they are paid or not. They wanted to only sync with the payments so we couldn't track daily sales or activity or make changes or send Xero invoices if needed. If you do a lot of transactions steer clear as the amount of work we had to do to fix this was huge.
