The old app was ok but very slow. This app takes way too many steps to print barcode labels. We print a lot of labels for thousands of products and you now have to click 3 more times to just print a label. When you are doing many, this is not better - it's worse for productivity. Additionally, the labels don't allow any adjustment so the product name and barcode get cut off on the left side of the label. There's no option to adjust that. When Shopify requires you to go to another app, it should at least meet what was good about the prior app and I would hope be more efficient and easier than less efficient. I'm not saying it's hard because you can figure it out easily but there are too many clicks that are unnecessary in an app. The development team should sit and produce a few hundred labels of various products and then they'll see the opportunity to streamline the steps. Our use: Dymo LabelWriter 450 Turbo with Dymo small labels 1"-2-1/8" Everything worked fine on the prior app except the speed. Now it cuts off the name and sku on the left side and takes too many steps to simply print.

I hope the devs or anyone who made this app actually read these reviews. The first app was bad but eventually functional from a workflow perspective. This new app has completely halted operations during one of our busiest times for printing barcodes. It's absolute garbage, the hoops you need to jump through from setup to print and simply not have it properly function (pages margins, etc) just go to show how overlooked the creation of this was. This is a very classic Shopify move, mindless development, never listening to your customers (it took 4+ years for customers to complain about the lack of a cost-of-goods section before any efforts of change), and releasing a product that actually destroys any productivity. I'm always amazed at how we're still paying for this platform, however it's difficult to move a whole shop's system. Must be why my two new shops are now on Squarespace...You gotta start helping your customers, Shopify.
Thank you for your feedback on the Retail Barcode Labels app! I have gone ahead and reached out to you via email to offer additional support as I would love to get more context from you so that we can get the app working to it's potential. I apologize that your experience has been less than ideal and I look forward to connecting with you! - Alex, Shopify Support

Just go back to the old app, this one is terrible. Extremely difficult to use. Please re-instate the old app.

This app is a huge pain... the older app was better. For no reason at all, and completely out of my control, this app defaults to using the wrong side of my Dymo printer! It is wasting all kinds of materials, and my time. Shopify needs to get on top of this issue immediately. ****UPDATE*** After getting previous issues sorted. As of Thursday April 4th 2019 this app is completely non functional, again. We can not adjust format/sizing again... for seemingly no reason. It would appear that once again Shopify has rolled out an update without communicating to their customers. Please get this sorted ASAP! We are losing money!!!

So many steps involved just to print a label. What a waste of time. Waste of materials too when I inevitably try to print quickly and forget to select the paper size (which needs to be done every time). Update: This is the most infuriating part of my brick and mortar. Even when selecting the correct size "paper," the label is positioned incorrectly on the sticker and gets cut off, necessitating a decrease in scale percentage. This in turn makes the label small and difficult to read, but otherwise, pertinent information gets cut off, even though it is nowhere near the side edges of the label. I also dislike that when selecting product labels to print, most recently created products are not listed first. Now I need to either remember which products were most recently created (difficult when creating many in one sitting), waste time and write them all down so I don't forget, or open multiple tabs to reference. Honestly, please bring back the former barcode printing app, it was far more user friendly and efficient. This one is AWFUL. Side note, when printing regular documents after printing labels, you need to select your printer and paper size...again.
Thanks for sharing your feedback! We work hard to improve our app functionality, so we’d like to look into this further for you. I’ve sent out to an email to you and hope to hear more of your thoughts soon. - JP, Shopify Support

Seriously? WTF is going on? I thought the last app was bad...this one is worse. Way more steps to print a simple label. When it does print, Its too small to read, and I have to go back to each individual product to print. At least with the old one, it would show all of the new products together. What are you suppose to do after Feb 20th?

NOT user friendly. bar code lines print too close together, barcode scanner won't read labels. And way too many steps to print labels.

Don't use this app if you are using shopify's google shopping app to, since it will overwrite all your EAN/GTIN fields with it's barcode resulting in failed syncronisation for your shopping feed. I lost over 250 correct maintained data until I noticed that it kills my Shipping Feed .... zero stars

Horrible! Very limited options for small labels. Doesn't work and you can't get through to tech support so that should tell you something right there! Please fix!

This app needs support seriously!!!!! So many dymo labels aren't available is insane! really disappointed. EDIT: Dec 22. 2024. It stopped creating barcodes entirely. Update March 21 2024. Still not working at all. Support is non existent. So glad the experts at shopify are buying apps and killing them off forcing me to pay 12 bucks a month to make barcodes with another app.

Other reviewers are right. This app was a complete waste of time...after 3 lengthy phone calls with support still couldn't get it to work. Text gets cut off on labels. Support suggested I download 2 other browsers to try (didn't help )and then suggested trying to export the info via csv file directly to dymo softeware (those steps also didn't work and also seems way too complicated). Usually I am a fan of shopify but this app is a complete and utter fail. I purchased another app for $9.99 a month and it worked perfectly in the first 5 minutes and offers a lot of great user friendly options and customization. Do NOT waste your energy on this. It is time I should've spent on developing my business. Would gladly spend money than get something for free that doesn't work.

I realize this app was created to improve on the last app "Barcode Printer", which did have its problems, however, THIS APP IS AWFUL for printing many barcodes for different items. It's like 5 more steps to print each barcode and it doesn't even support the 1"x1" barcode that SHOPIFY SELLS ON ITS WEBSITE. You have to choose something close in size and the barcode looks bad. THIS IS NOT A GOOD ENOUGH SOLUTION. This is worse in many ways. At least with the former app, when it was set up and working properly, it worked fantastically. This app is junk. shame on the developers for pushing this crap out. Takes forever to get something simple done.

Very difficult to create templates as they have EXTREMELY LIMITED OPTIONS FOR LABELS. I was trying to make tags from Dymo 30333 .5x1 labels but they are not recognized by this system. Not a great system but better than nothing since this all Shopify thinks we need. :(

This new version gets zero stars from me. I have a case of the Dymo labels from the old app to use and there is no template for them on the new app. I tried to grab something close, but half of the label is cut off and the print is tiny. I also have to take MORE steps to create and print barcodes...which I definitely do not have time for. If you're going to create something new...maybe it should be better? More efficient than the last? I cannot tell you how much I HATE this new version!

SOOOOOOO BAD!!! The other app so much better, this one cuts off half the product title, DO NOT LIKE! Will be using a new company, have been loyal for ages with the old app but this one is terrible.
Jan. 7, 2019
The last barcode app is 100x better. All my product titles fit into the small 1X2 label. Now everything gets cut off and it's not aligned. I had to buy the bigger labels so the titles can fit, but it does not align. FIX THIS ISSUE!!!!
Jan. 4, 2019
Not sure why I have to buy brand new labels because now they are printing Lengthwise instead of the original way. Please don't make this a "have to".

Terrible. Last one was so much more efficient. It takes more time, more screens, more steps... not as good.

Every update is worse and worse. More work and more time spent, just to print barcodes. This is hands down the worst feature of Shopify and one of the most common. I really don't understand why they keep making this app more and more terrible.

It seems like Shopify's trying their best to make improvements, but this app is not very helpful yet. Pro... #1 I can now use it in Chrome on my PC! Woo hoo! Before in the old app you could only use it on a PC. I have an iPad, but there's no way to hook the printer up to an iPad. Here are my issues with it... #1 - I use the 30332 label and that paper size is not available for me when I go to actually print. #2 - Instead of auto reducing the size of the product title text, it just cuts it off which is frustrating. #3 - Creating Barcodes doesn't allow me to pick the size of the barcode from what I can tell in the directions. I'm too afraid to try it otherwise as we have over a thousand variants. #4 - It's great to save time at the checkout with barcodes, but it sure would be nice to have some sort of inventory update process. EX: Enter Inventory Mode... Scan a label and update how many you have on stock. #5 - Not sure how to fix this one, but if I just want to quickly print a few of one variant it's click intensive. Example: 1, Select All Products, type "product name" in search, select product, select more actions, select print barcode labels, find desired variant and enter 3 barcode labels to print, click inside and change the other 5-16 variants to 0, select print, select send to printer, select print again if your print options are correct. Total time: 53 seconds going as fast as I can.... I have to wait for many screens to load. Total Clicks: 10 including one click as typing in the product name. Dymo Software: 25 seconds and 6 clicks... clicks including typing the actual product name out. Conclusion... if the app assigns the correct style of barcode for the dymo printer, then I think creating barcodes for all your products would be awesome with this app. (The old app wouldn't assign the correct style of barcode for me to use the small LW barcodes) I won't be using it unfortunately to print my barcodes though until they get it to work with the 30332 paper size and work with less clicks. BTW... I'd be happy to be a tester if you guys need a client to test things out.
