Our experience with SKUGEN was absolutely horrendous. The so-called “customer service” from Bogdan was nothing short of dismissive and condescending. He repeatedly demanded screenshots of the same billing information—data they could clearly access themselves. Despite being on their “free” plan, we were charged $1.99 monthly, which is outrageous. Instead of addressing the issue, they bumped us into their “automatic SKU generation” plan without our consent—something Shopify offers for free, by the way. We had unknowingly paid for this app for two years, and when we questioned their shady practices, they refused to refund us all of the months that we were charged for a free plan. It took escalating the issue to Shopify and other governing bodies to even begin addressing the problem. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the app itself is clunky, confusing, and offers the bare minimum in functionality. Their billing is a complete mess, which seems intentional to trap users. There are far better apps out there that provide similar services without this level of frustration and unethical behavior. Save yourself the headache—SKUGEN is not worth your time or money. RESPONSE TO SKUGEN'S COMMENT: It’s deeply frustrating to see SKUGEN continuing to deflect accountability and dismiss valid concerns. For clarity: I was refunded for 3 months, but I was charged for over a year on what was supposed to be a free plan. Despite sending all the requested information multiple times, the response I received has been nothing but gaslighting and attempts to shift blame. You claim that plan changes require explicit user consent, yet I was charged for a downgrade I didn’t approve and then all the sudden moved to a paid tier without any transparency or notification. Unlike other apps on Shopify that clearly communicate pricing changes well in advance, SKUGEN failed to provide any such notice. The lack of transparency and unwillingness to take responsibility speaks volumes about the company’s practices. Let me reiterate: this isn’t about the money—it’s about honesty and integrity. Users deserve to know what they’re paying for and to have issues resolved without being misled or stonewalled. Shopify is now investigating the situation, and I encourage others who have had similar experiences to do the same. Additionally, the app itself leaves much to be desired. It’s unintuitive, confusing, and offers subpar functionality compared to its competitors. Customer service is just as lacking, with limited availability and dismissive responses, especially for users in time zones like PST (which is only around midnight). Other apps in the Shopify ecosystem provide better features, superior support, and transparency in billing practices—SKUGEN is simply not worth your time or energy. If you value straightforward tools and ethical customer service, I urge you to look elsewhere. There are far better options available that won’t leave you feeling cheated or ignored.

They charged me money after it was uninstalled a few minutes after installation because the app doesn't work. Be careful when installing this app if you don't want unwanted charges!!

When an app subscription is activated Shopify invoices the entire month, at the end of the billing period. This is why you got the charge after almost a month. As you know, we refunded this charge. This is all we can do as an app developer. Also, I'm sure you would see that the app works well if you would contact our support.

Ok, so I bought an advanced monthly plan and custom codes which was one time payment. Tried it out and was working. The next day I try to do custom codes, it shows that it's a completely different plan and I don't have access to it. Did you change the plan? This is absurd. I either want a full refund or access that I paid for initially.

This is a very finicky app. In our case we trusted it and it seriously screwed us up (now sure what went wrong in the process). I guess it doesn't check if previous SKUs collided with current SKUs their generation process (even if those were generated by the app). Because of that it generated duplicated SKUs for a couple of our products. This means we printed duplicated SKUs (and barcodes for that matter) and sent badly tagged products to our warehouse. We are having to generate new SKUs for each duplicated product, retrieve all badly tagged products from the warehouse and manually check them one by one to see what they actually are in order to generate new codes. Horrible experience. It works alright in some cases but it makes "small" mistakes... And those mistakes are EXPENSIVE. Also no options to print on Brother printers.

They charged me once again like all this 3 party apps that are useless, I was understanding that if i upgraded they would put barcodes to products missing my barcodes won't be using this

I paid for the advanced option so I could update one product and it overwrote my entire catalog. No mater which option I choose, all products, collection, or product, it re writes all products.

Button to generate SKUs is grey out. Updated to the £1.99 monthly plan and it still seems greyed out. Some clarification on why this is would be helpful.

Thank you for your review. The Generate button is greyed out if the options you selected are not part of your current plan. The $1.99 plan is for Automatic generation, but it does not include all generation options which are part of the "Advanced options" (one-time fee)

Every time I add a product, SKUgen inserts it before all the serial numbers which inturn raises all the serial numbers it already generated by one. A great way to screw up your inventory management.

Thank you for the feedback. The app is not changing already generated SKUs, unless you choose to re-generate the SKUs. For new products we recommend to check the "Set only missing SKUs" checkbox. This will prevent changing already generated SKUs.
