Klaviyo: Email Marketing & SMS

Is this fraud?- Klaviyo Secret Sending Limits & Poor Transparency — Be Careful I’ve used Klaviyo for over a year and feel other Shopify merchants deserve a heads-up about something Klaviyo never discloses: Klaviyo will charge you for contacts that it will, without your knowledge or consent, refuse to send your emails to if they deem that contact is unlikely to open/click your email. Klaviyo takes your money then quietly gates or throttles your campaign sends, meaning your emails simply do not reach your subscribers — even though you’re paying full price for that list size. In my case, I had an 8k active list (with 30k suppressed), and Klaviyo still withheld delivery of many campaigns. Open rates were low because emails weren’t actually reaching inboxes, not because of strategy or content. Klaviyo’s dashboard shows “Poor” reputation, but the platform does not explain that this means your send volume will be internally limited. Klaviyo support misdirects you into thinking its all about YOU, the quality of your emails, etc... while not telling you that it's also because they just don't send your emails (their discretion), period. This makes recovery nearly impossible. You’re stuck paying for a list you cannot fully email, with no straightforward path to fix the issue and no warning that this is happening behind the scenes. Klaviyo can be powerful, but this lack of transparency seriously undermines trust. After switching providers, my deliverability improved immediately — confirming the issue wasn’t my content or audience. If you’re a Shopify merchant whose income depends on reliable deliverability, be aware of Klaviyo’s undisclosed internal limiting system. It can cost you months of lost revenue, while you’re still paying for contacts you can’t reach. Someone should really investigate this practice, as it seems like a class action waiting to happen.
Klaviyo is such a buggy horrible integration that I'm going to try and get my client to change. I have a sign up form teaser on my client's shopify store that is not part of any sign up form. I've literally turned off every sign up form, every flow, and even disabled Klaviyo from Shopify, and still this Klaviyo teaser is the site. I've contacted support and got the typical copy and paste, go to sign up forms to delete your teaser but there is no live sign up forms, there is no sign up forms that use this teaser, it doesn't exist. Either it was deleted previously and the code still continues to be on the site without any way of removing it and Klaviyo doesn't want to help to fix their broken buggy product.
4 days of working to set up a simple landing page with an email capture form and an automated redirect after submission. Experience so far: - form editor is terrible - forms are not responsive across desktop to mobile (and editing for two platforms in the editor is a not usable) - limited logic capabilities moving through form submission flow - forms not saving consistently (it has been random for the past several hours) - forms not saving to designated lists - backend and admin is really unsophisticated and illogical - support (email, free plan) is slow, typically get the ticket closed type of support. In fact, in the past 36 hours, I have twice waited 12+ hours for a response and when the responses finally came I was called Nick and Kate (neither are my name) and the answers were not for me. I had to submit a second ticket to get a response to my first one. I could go one. There is a reason why over 10% of these ratings are 1 star So frustrating because I am now looking for a new solution to what should have been an easy requirement to solve
No support after starting to use paid version. We had technical problems and could not activate any features. Support was unresponsive, did not help to solve any issues, not even freezed the subscription until WE solve them.
Terrible customer service. Goes in circles. Very unhelpful people answering tell me why things are the way they are. The way they are isn't working...
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we're sorry to hear about your experience. A member of our support leadership team is reaching out to you directly via the support ticket thread to ensure your concerns are addressed. We value your input and are eager to hear more from you to resolve the issue.
Directly after installation, a phone call?? And then an email pressuring for a meeting?? Seriously? That's reason enough to delete the app immediately. I am very surprised by this approach. Please remove my contact details from your distribution list, I do not want to receive any more calls or messages!
Has to be THE WORST customer service I have ever encountered. No chat, no phone number, only email, which is promptly ignored. I've been waiting a week for them to respond to an account access issue. Can't do much if I can't access my account. No need to point out the irony of a marketing company that doesn't seem to understand that their customers, the ones that pay for their service, need prompt, helpful support every now and then. An update: It is now three weeks, and Klaviyo has still not bothered to contact me and assist with my issue. Nice try suggesting it is my mail server, this has been checked, the problem lies with this email marketing company that clearly do not care enough about customer service to provide either a chat or a phone number for help.
Hello, I can assure you that our team has been replying to your support requests, and I sincerely apologize that you have not been receiving them. Our responses are sent via our ticketing platform using the alias [email protected], and it is likely that your custom domain has some strict security settings on emails coming through. At this point, only your domain provider or IT team can provide more context around why the email has not reached your inbox. We recommend you contact them for additional details and highly recommend that you add that alias to your safe senders list.
Completely unreliable software. Sometimes a campaign sends, sometimes it doesn't. Often have to keep repeating setup until it decides to send.
I think it's very shady that Klaviyo instantly charges more for additional email recipients beyond your plan level, but that when you clean your list, the plan cost stays at the higher level - unless you dig into the settings and change it back down. A message should come up when 'Active' users drops below your biling level to ask if you want to lower your plan level. It's clearly to maximise revenue - but in an underhand way.
in sort of a nightmare situation now with adding our domain email and changing DNS records. all of our emails are landing in spam. Klaviyo said it was because we lost the confidence of the consumer... not true. this all happened in a week as we were trying to change our email. support is zero help. we said we would need to switch email companies as being without our email marketing for weeks would seriously impair our business, they simply say... sorry to lose you. we literally spent 1-2K a month...switching to omnisend or finding another partner
If you ever get hacked, do not expect the customer support to help you. I have been using Klaviyo since 2021. Recently my account was hacked and after numerous emails to customer support, I have not received any help, other than them telling me that my account is not associated with the email I'm trying to use for my login. DUH ! That's the whole problem. It was changed. I will now have to uninstall this app, lose thousands of my customers emails, which I built up for the last eight years, as well as tell my bank to block these people from taking money out of my account. Thanks a lot.
The interface and features are really impressive, so too the pricing promoted with the app-store. Once you are using it and your member numbers get over a few thousand, the costs skyrocket. Then if you uninstall it, beware. The pop-up windows for my newsletter sign-up remain. Shopify could not assist and referred me to Klayvio. This problem is still yet to be resolved and creating a horrible user experience. I think if someone uninstalls it should be a clear and clean removal and not this level of entanglement and impact on users. I regret signing up in the first place.
Great product but support since the IPO has dropped, the support teams aren't given any powers to do anything so you can wait weeks/months from connected departments. If you need/think you might need to move quickly then choose another vendor.
Took about 2 months to try and get Klaviyo to integrate with Shopify tags with lots of back and forth between support who weren't able to assist me properly, rather just sending me a link to an article. We were also overcharged for 3 months and still yet to receive our money back. Set up with Omnisend and immediately the integrations of profile data, segmentation and shopify tags were there without me even paying for anything.
Their form stopped to shop up without notice as I experience unmatching data analytics between how many customer left an empty cart and then indeed a form should be shown up. On top, I understand perfectly provide a payment tier for fast support but eliminate it as a way to resolve something that seems due to their feature not working, I think isn't the best experience. That's why I am proving 1 star. P.S the answer litterly show the Klaviyo did not understand that they do have a bug into cart detecting form as it is not shown at all to people thus let me loose many many people to signup.
Hello, We recommend going through our community pages to help with the issue you are experiencing. https://community.klaviyo.com/ As well as going through our help center. https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/search?query=Sign-up+forms and https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/search?query=cart
They've already started increasing the price on us, despite the fact that we are still learning the system and have hardly sent any emails. I'm not seeing value for money yet. The built in shopify emailing system was adequate for us.
My store launch is being delayed because I want to ensure that the leads from paid advertisements will convert, so I need a solid email flow set up first. Unfortunately, I've encountered several issues with Klaviyo. First, I couldn’t upload my own fonts. I followed Klaviyo's suggestion to use the inspect tool to find the font code and upload its link, but it didn’t work. Although my domain and Shopify are connected successfully, I keep receiving errors when trying to publish a flow, stating it’s not synced to my store. I tested some cart abandonment flows using different accounts and waiting long periods, but no emails were sent, not even for test orders. When emails are sent successfully, they often end up in spam. Additionally, I’m forced to have my address in the footer of emails, which is problematic for a home-based business. Klaviyo also places a branding watermark on every email or pop-up, requiring an upgrade to a $20 plan to remove it. While I plan to upgrade once everything works smoothly to ensure my brand looks professional, the numerous errors and lack of support make it difficult to trust Klaviyo. I’ve spent two full business days trying to get it to work without genuine support. When someone finally responded today, they only addressed one error and didn’t provide a solution. It seems that without a higher-end plan, Klaviyo doesn’t offer much support. Larger companies receive weekly demos, but small startups are left struggling. Edit: They say that "double opt in" is optional but even if you uncheck it, they still wont add any email to your list that doesnt confirm a double opt in. Not only that, but they don't work with any intergration that is not on klaviyo, any sign ups from pop ups from other apps wont be added to klaviyos email list unless they specifically were added by a klaviyo native pop up. How frustrating, I've had my last straw. I'm out. Update: I've struggled installing, uninstalling, doing test emails etc for 3 days. Did they help or respond to my help requests? No. I saw a "klaviyotest" email subscribe to my list but never followed up on my request, which means they do see my requests but don't bother to help. If you're a start up, don't even waste your time here. They only care about big companeis and will kiss the ground they walk on being the one to spam those companies every two days begging them to use their platform. (a witness from both sides). Edit: If you're a start up, turn away. Don't just listen to my personal experience, but take a look at their "pricing options page," its a giveaway of how they give a different treatment to more established companies who starting at 10000 subscribers would get a "demo," video onboarding etc, meanwhile small busineses like us can barely even get an email response.
Although Klaviyo has some nice features, there are better and more affordable options out there. I had yet even been able to use it before I got an email stating that I already used up my free plan and needed to update my pricing. When I checked what I would have to upgrade to, it showed almost $900. Klaviyo bases its billing on ALL contacts rather than actual subscribers. This is important as you cannot market email those who haven't subscribed, so this system of billing is extremely misleading. I quickly uninstalled. I have a very small business based out of my shed. This isn't a realistic for most stores on shopify.
There billing is deplorable. You can't make changes to your account without being double billed. They don't do proration and then if you wait to change your plan at the end of your billing so you don't get double charged they will still charge you for the highest plan and tell you that they can't help you and you aren't owed a refund of the difference. I call that theft. I downgraded to a $100 plan and entered my info to pay for that plan. Instead of it charging me for the new $100 plan I was charged $205. I reached out immediately to get the difference refunded. I was told that I paid the bill before I made the change which was 100% false because I updated the payment information after I made the plan change.
