We also love this app! Super easy way for us to offset our carbon impact through shipping and to provide customers with peace of mind when ordering from all over the country. We've used Planet to send packages over 1,732,585 km, since installation. Very affordable, with a simple setup and flexibility in terms of design and communication. Highly recommend Luke & The Roadies

I don't get all the hate this app gets in the comments... It's a great and easy way to support the causes we care about and we're thrilled to be part of this program. The app itself has great features and options for how to display our contributions on our site. My only request would be a more condensed view of the impact data as it takes up too much vertical space, which is the only reason we're not making this visible right now.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP!!! I use many apps on my shopify store and this one was hands down the WORST! It charged my customers .50 cents over and over again without their consent. One customer said 8 times! Now I have to refund hundreds of these charges, which of course looks suspect making my business appear unreliable. So if you want to lose customer faith and give yourself a massive headache then by all means... UPDATE: I haven’t received any help on this matter, yet my customers are still being charged without their consent. This app being uninstalled for days and it’s still happening. They just told me to refund everyone and they’ll let the developers know the issue. Horrible and stressful experience with no accountability or resolutions.

We investigated this and discovered that the charges were not generated by Planet, but instead by attempted fraud: Someone was using your carbon-neutral shipping "product" to try and generate chargebacks. All charges were using the same name but different credit card numbers. (We assume they just picked a cheap item that didn’t need shipping, and then chose the "Support Carbon Removal" item, which is $0.50.) These charges triggered our fraud detection and were flagged in your admin. There is no support or a way to download results. Just a dash board with an image. Even when contacting shopify support they had no idea how to get the data to me. I will be moving to a better hosted site like green spark.

But you CAN display your results! In fact, the Planet widget and badge are designed to showcase store-level data. You can, for example, show how many kilos of carbon your brand has removed, alongside relevant equivalencies (e.g., "X number of miles driven in a gas-powered car"). You can also display the specific carbon removal innovations that you fund via Planet, such as reforestation, direct air capture, and the other solutions available to Planet users. This program is terrible. I was looking for something that would help us showcase our work. They expect you to pay $300.00 a month to be carbon-neutral. Response: Their response is misleading. I never said the $300 was a set price. It is based on how much you ship and ours works out to $300-600 per month. That amount is ridiculous. They do not take into account the things we actually do ourselves to reduce our carbon footprint, and there is nowhere for us to notate that information (we do a lot). There is no reason we should HAVE to pay someone else to offset our carbon neutrality. There is an option to have the customer pay 50 cents, but if you choose that option, then you don't get the badge - and it looks to the customer as though you are putting it all on them and not sharing in the program. It's a great idea, but the execution of the program is poor.

This isn't accurate. The "Community" subscription enables customers to fund carbon-neutral shipping instead of merchants, which means 100% of funding comes from buyers. If merchants want to assign a sliver of their revenue to carbon-neutral shipping, then charges are based on factors like order volume, package weight, etc. There is definitely no flat charge of $300. DO NOT USE! Moved from Ecologi to this as it appeared native, and better value, but they are are very sneaky in how they word the billing and our bill per shipment is crazily excessive. They're trying to claim we owe over $1000 although we set up a cap. This is ridiculous and if they try to action we will need to go to court or chargeback. ### Edit: the package size, weight and dimensions aren't known by Planet as they are not entered in our backend. If you are using product dimensions, for rugs, which are sent rolled, you are massively over-pricing. We are being charged at a rate of $10 per item. Initial pricing displayed was $0.35 per item. The cap is confusing as although we have not been charged over this per month it shows we owe x8 the total monthly cap.

We're sorry that you had a bad experience with Planet. Regarding the bill – you will never be charged more than your billing cap for any billing cycle. When it comes to your per-shipment costs, the weight of products is one of the drivers of shipping emissions. Shipping heavy products like rugs can generate above-average emissions. If you'd like to continue offering carbon-neutral shipping as an option, you can select a subscription option that enables your customers to choose carbon-neutral shipping on any order.

Making unapproved charges. We are paying as much as $82 per order which is insane. The monthly spending limit doesn't help much because they will withhold and charge the remaining to next month.

We're sorry you didn't have a good experience with Planet! Planet does not make any charges that aren't approved, so there is some sort of misunderstanding. Looking at your store, I see some of the items are extremely heavy, e.g., a grill that weighs more than 70 pounds. Because carbon emissions are based in part of the weight of a package, then a 70-pound shipment will simply generate more emissions and therefore carry a larger price tag to offset. You can always use the "billing cap" to ensure that you're never billed more than you expect. Please reach out to planet at shopify dot com if you have questions or would like further details. Again, apologies that you did not have a good experience with Planet.

Planet users can also customize their "billing cap," which guarantees there will be no Planet charges above that customized threshold. Finally, Planet users can choose to enable customers to pay (instead of paying themselves). 1. It charges you for every order--even POS orders which don't require shipping. 58% of my sales are in-store. Insanely unethical to automatically charge *shipping* offsets for *non-shipping* sales. 2. It seriously inflates your numbers. I made 640 sales in the last 30 days, and was charged for 907 orders. (again, about 370 of these orders didn't require shipping). 3. The history graph shows I had nearly 200 sales *in one day* a few weeks ago. I actually had 29...and only 6 of those required shipping...and only 5 of those had shipped at this point. So I paid nearly $0.15*200=$30 in carbon offsets for 5 shipments for that one day. 4. The app ambiguates "orders" and "deliveries". Per my Shopify reports, I only had 288 "deliveries" in the time it claimed I had 907. Shopify, these infractions erode what little trust people have in environmental practices. I am happy to remove this review if you refund my inflated fees...including Planet fees for all POS orders. My company has been carbon neutral for years, and will continue to be so for sometime thanks to the overages I've paid using Planet.

Like all Shopify apps this one is a disaster. It's all marketing and no functionality. No way to turn it on/off in the cart and no way to talk to them. NO way to contact def - shopify support denied knowing anything about it and started explaining Planet Labs to be instead, a satellite company owned by my friends. FFS. No transparency about the payment tiers, the badge does NOT show up in my cart. Theres like so much info on Planet but nothing helpful and it doesn't work. What a waste of time.

Love the idea. Execution was challenging. Had installed for a couple of months without the badge showing - when I went to put badge on and it showed blank on my Shopify 2.0 theme I contacted support. I was initially told it should work on my specific theme but then on checking support concluded it was a theme problem and I need to contact the theme developer. Lost confidence when cute marketing stats on emmissions that show to me as Admin can't be shared with my customer or shown on a page on my website, for example - even if coded in. Took my money on each order for a couple of months worked fine. Payment trail very thoroughly done.

Love the idea and transparency with HOW the shipment becomes carbon neutral! But I can't add it to my checkout because I have a custom website instead of a Shopify theme. :( I can still use it in cart as a workaround, but customers very rarely view their cart that way. Please update it to work on checkout for custom stores!
