Retail Barcode Labels
All reviews
The recent Retail Barcode Labels update removed our ability to print SKU on Avery 5167 labels. We manufacture hundreds of visually similar products. Printing only barcode and price substantially increases the likelihood of mislabeling inventory. We'd like this functionality restored or our store opted out of the new template restrictions.
Thank you for laying this out so clearly. We're passing this along to the team that owns the app, and specific details like the label format and why the SKU matters for your workflow make that report much stronger. If you'd like to go through your current setup and look at options in the meantime like choosing another label size and customizing margins to allow to print on the Avery 5167), our support team is available at help.shopify.com/support.
Worked better than expected. The reviews, cautions, and compatibility notes made me concerned. However, The ability to filter and select specific products or ANY products to generate barcodes worked well. I didn't have any to start with so overwriting wasn't an issue. The ability to select what will print on each barcode based on the size of the label was helpful and easy to modify and test different templates. Definitely test and learn the character length of product titles, SKUs, and variants for your label size. The app does a decent job at resizing the text to fit the best it can up to a certain point. And I have a Rollo printer that I typically use for 4x6 shipping labels. We purchased 2x1 labels, used the Zebra settings in the app, selected the products we needed barcodes for, and generated a PDF. I printed the PDF using my Rollo thermal printer and they were perfectly aligned every time. I'm glad I didn't need to buy a new label maker. My only wish is that I could change the font (because I'm a designer and we just like to do that). I love that the app is free and ended up being exactly what I needed. We used the labels on the back of custom tags for our in-store merchandise to be sold using the Shopify POS system.
Even though I'm using the same small Dymo template, all of a sudden my barcodes are longer and a different font. This is a major problem as it changes the whole layout of our product. How can I get my normal template back, and how can I speak to someone to help - no links or helpdesk available.
Thank you so much for sharing this feedback! I understand the recent changes to font may not be ideal and rest assured I have relayed that feedback to our development team. For the layout issue, please reach out to our Retail support team via help.shopify.com with the details and we can investigate further for you. - Natasha, Shopify Support
I love this app, however, I am extremely displeased about the current font change. Please change it back ASAP or allow us to choose our own font. I absolutely hate that now all my labels do not match and I am literally given no choice in the matter. Please change it back or allow us to choose our own font STAT.
Hi there and thank you so much for sharing this feedback! I understand changes to font may not be ideal and rest assured I have relayed that feedback to our development team - thanks for flagging and for the suggestion of being able to choose your own! If you have encountered a specific technical issue due that change, not just a display issue, please do feel free to reach out to our Retail support team via help.shopify.com and we can investigate further for you as well. - Natasha, Shopify Support
Funciona perfecto para lo que esta diseñada.
The app works great but I would like for a specific feature. I would like for the dymo price tags to be editable. I do not want the price to show since my products are dynamic. Please let me edit it please. ``` Dymo - 30299 Price Tag 3/8" x 3/4" - 10mm x 19mm ``` If you give me access to yalls codebase for this app I'll do it myself too for free, just give me this feature for my store. Thank you! - Abraham
Hey Abraham. Thanks for the 3 stars and the enthusiasm! On the smallest Dymo size (3/8" x 3/4"), the in-app template has limited fields, so dropping the price isn't always possible there. For full control, you can design a custom layout in the standalone Dymo Label software: start with a blank layout, add just the barcode and text fields you want (leaving price off), then merge your exported product CSV. The Dymo Label software guide on help.shopify.com walks through it.
WORKS GREAT FOR SIMPLE LABELS AND WILL ASSIGN BARCODE SKU #'S FOR YOU IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY ASSIGNED YOUR OWN. JUST CONNECT YOUR THERMAL PRINTER AND SELECT THE PRODUCTS YOU WANT TO PRINT THE TAGS FOR AND BAM...YOU GOT TAGS!! WITHOUT HAVING TO DO ALL THE WORK ON YOUR OWN.
just stopped working cannot download/print labels
Thanks for flagging this. A sudden stop on label downloads or prints is often a browser or PDF hiccup, so it's worth ruling that out first. Two quick checks: try generating the labels in a different browser or an incognito/private window, and make sure pop-ups and downloads aren't blocked for your Shopify admin. Printing from desktop rather than mobile can also help. If it still won't download after that, our support team can dig into it with you at help.shopify.com/support.
Works great if only needing to print a barcode here or there. There is no way to print barcodes from Purchase orders, making large PO's almost impossible to manage if there are a lot of products without barcodes. I now have to go into over 200 variants by hand and print individual barcode labels. Rather than being able to pull data from a PO.
Thanks for the detailed feedback. Labeling 200+ variants one at a time is a lot of manual work. Two things that may help now: in Retail Barcode Labels you can bulk-select multiple products from the product list and print their labels in one batch, instead of opening each variant. The app can also auto-generate barcodes for products missing one. Pulling labels straight from a PO isn't available today, but this feedback helps us prioritize future improvements. We appreciate you flagging it.
the new barcodes never show up after you have created them - and i have no idea why they take so long even if the app says they are ready :(
Hi there and thank you so much for sharing this feedback! We completely understand labels not appearing after you create them is less than ideal. Try refreshing the app page, clearing your browser cache, and switching browsers. If the issue persists, please do feel free to reach out to our Retail support team via help.shopify.com and we can investigate further for you. - Natasha, Shopify Support
Overall this app does its job for me. Now with the updated Purchase Orders function in shopify, I think it would be helpful if you could link it to the app and have it automatically create labels based on incoming products & quantities. I've asked for this a few years ago but it never came to fruition. Hoping that this could be added soon!
Thanks for sticking with the app and for laying out the use case so clearly. Auto-generating labels from a Purchase Order's incoming products and quantities isn't something the Retail Barcode Labels app does today, but it's a genuinely useful idea and we've passed it to the team that owns the app. We appreciate you flagging it again with the detail about the updated Purchase Orders feature.
Currently there is an option to "set number of labels to match number of items in stock" however I want to print a certain number per barcode to export and send to suppliers. Currently I have to go through 1-by-1 and input the number 1 for every barcode when this could be a simple toggle "Set all barcodes to print X number" I have nearly 2000 barcodes so this is time consuming to do it 1-by-1
Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion, and for the 4 stars. A one-click "set all barcodes to X copies" option is a clear time-saver, especially across ~2000 barcodes. Today the bulk option only matches label counts to stock on hand, so there isn't yet a single toggle to apply the same fixed quantity to every barcode. That's a specific, well-described idea, and we're passing it along to the team that builds Retail Barcode Labels. We appreciate you taking the time to detail the workflow.
Merci encore ! - Natasha, Shopify Support
This app is fine and does the job but it would get 5 stars from me if I could convert a purchase order to a label file....
Hi there and thank you so much for sharing this feedback! I can see why being able to print labels directly from a Purchase Order would be of benefit and I have passed your feedback on to our development team. Really appreciate you flagging this. Please do feel free to reach out to our Retail support team via help.shopify.com if you have any further feedback you'd like to share, at any time. Thanks so much! - Natasha, Shopify Support
almost perfect. would be better if they added more label sizes or let us create our own. some of us use circle labels that are 3 inches. adding a bigger variety would be amazing
Hi there and thank you so much for sharing this feedback! I have passed your feedback on to our development team, and really appreciate you flagging this. I understand that being able to use custom label sizes would be helpful. UPDATE: The developers brought back the set to zero and it's so much better!! Thank you. Works like a charm and is a great simple to use app. I use DYMO label printers and have multiple printers and styles of labels and this app works with all the configurations I have. OLD review: It is useful, but a recent update made using this plug-in app more work than it used to be. Now if i want to print labels for one variant of a product out of say, 20, i have to go through 19 product variants and set all the quantitiy of labels to zero manually. there used to be a link to click to set all labels to zero but that's gone and the default is one. this would be four stars if they would bring options back to set default to zero or allow the admin to configure default settings.
Hi there and thank you so much for sharing this feedback! This should have been updated since so that the label quantity will default to zero. However, if you are not seeing that change, please do feel free to reach out to our Retail support team via help.shopify.com and we can take a look for you. Thanks so much! - Natasha, Shopify Support
They updated the app and made it very inconvenient to print 1 variant sticker at a time but it seems like they heard the feedback from their customers and changed it back. This morning I printed some labels and it was set up how it used to be.
Thanks for flagging this. Having to manually reset 48 variants to 0 before printing is definitely not an efficient workflow. Your feedback on the default quantity behavior after the update is valuable and has been shared with our team. For now, if you need further help: help.shopify.com/support
