Numeral Sales Tax

Sales tax is hard. People think its some simple process to automate, but in reality, there are a lot of required phone calls with states, issues that take a long time to resolve, and yeah, its just quite a mess in the US. Numeral does a pretty good job trying to tackle it, but they are not perfect. They are in our Slack so communication is fast, so thats great. Me recommendation: If you have a clean sales tax history and want to move to Numeral, you are in pretty good shape, go for it. If you have a long history of backfilling issues, I think its best to use a dedicated person. Its extremely time intensive to do back fillings and clean it up. Numeral did do it for me, but it required a ton of my time personally. No matter what you do, when switching to and new sales tax provider, you need to first make sure you personally can login to all the state portals, check if all the info like emails and addresses are correct, get all the passwords in a sheet, and hand it off to the provider in a clean way. Otherwise its going to be a horrible experience for everyone. Get organized! Sales tax is hard.

As many others have mentioned in their reviews, customer support can take weeks to respond. They won't own to their mistakes and you'll end up having to fix them yourself most likely. The service may seem fine when everything is working, but if you run into an issue, getting help is extremely difficult. That’s when the experience becomes frustrating and disappointing.

Great for managing sales tax and tax filings for our brand!

After reviewing a few solutions including Numeral, I had chosen Numeral about eight month ago. I am happy with my decision so far. Their solution is very streamlined, and I also like their proactively responsive customer support team.

Consumer beware. They come across great, helpful and responsive. Then once they get you onboarded, the communication stops, you see them in and out of your accounts at all hours of the day and night and nothing is getting done. They switched existing annual filings to MONTHLY saying that they "had" to do things that way but never told me up front so then they collect $75 PER FILING PER MONTH in like five states in which I do business. ZERO dollar filings I know they won't publish this but do your homework and ask the questions up front. The amount of manual work I have had to do to get them disconnected from my accounts has been awful

Takes the headache (and literally all the thinking) out of sales tax, so I can focus on things that are frankly way more fun to think about :-) Love Numeral!

Waited forever and they never finished the nexus setup. No communication or customer service.

One of the worst apps and without a doubt the worst customer service I have ever experienced. You are sold on an easy filing and essentially hands off experience. Reality is the product doesn't even work and the numbers it generates are incorrect. We were told the discrepancies are due to "rounding differences" which is a crazy response for tax that needs to be reported. It missed our filings, said it would cover any penalties, and has since ghosted us in responding. Unbelievable, this company should be sued for fraud and held liable for their negligence.

Horrendous customer support. I had a time-sensitive filing issue and went nearly a month without a clear answer or resolution. I followed up 5 times and went two full weeks with zero responses on the ticket. Still not resolved. For something as critical as sales tax, this is unacceptable.

Super easy to use, great customer service, and it actually takes the headache out of managing multi-state sales tax. Everything is clear, streamlined, and reliable. It’s one of those tools that just works without constant babysitting.

I would give zero stars if I could. They filed late, filed the incorrect amount, took zero accountability, and then disappeared. Read this whole review if you're considering them - they are huge scam and operate completely out of integrity. I was so excited for this service, because filing sales tax is such a massive pain to deal with as a business owner. But they didn't file my taxes on time, and when they finally did file, it was over a month late and the penalties and interests had piled up. They didn't bother to check what actual amount was due, and instead filed the inaccurate amount from the month before, leaving me with even more penalties and interest. Christian said he would ask his manager about getting the penalties refunded, and then ghosted me. To date I have not heard a proper response from them, a refund for the penalties, or any follow up at all. It's impossible to get support in a timely manner, and when they do respond, it's to give a runaround answer and then never follow through. I am now in the process of deregistering Numeral from my tax account with the state of CA which is also a huge pain. I'm a business owner, and totally understand that things go wrong sometimes! We are all human and make mistakes. I had so much grace for the constant problems, but at this point it's just not good business to stay with this company. They don't care about your experience as a customer, or about the legal ramifications of making a mistake with your taxes. Find a different app and save yourself the headache! Updating my review to include new info: 1. I removed them from our shopify account completely, but when I went to file my Q1 taxes this year, they had ALREADY FILED IT without my permission! They should not even even had access to my account at that point. I've removed them in all ways that I am able, and they are still accessing my information somehow. 2. I commented on their social media, and commented in support of other users who had the same horrific experience that I did, and they deleted all of the comments. They could have easily just responded publicly, but instead they chose to hide our bad experiences and silence anyone who shares how bad their service is. AVOID at all costs.

I tried for two months to setup this app. We had numerous prone conversations. I gave them full admin rights on the store. To no avail. It does not work. I am late with filling the sales tax and I will have to pay penalties. Thanks to Numeral.

Exceptional service for a good price. I;ve been uising Numeral for 3+ years. Their app makes things easy to transfer data. all i have to do each month is approve the filings and pay the fees. support is great and the team is knowledgeable. seriously there isnt a better sales tax option out there.

Numeral is a scam. I signed up in August to find out in January of this year that they had not filed my taxes even for the state I reside in for over 4 months. They will bill you large amounts to "file," but when my CPA looked into it when reconciling EOY it turns out that they had not filed anything for months. They also could not provide me with any reporting log of what they did with account confirmations. Honestly, Numeral should not be allowed to be an app on the Shopify app store at this point.

We are so grateful for Numeral. Sales tax is unbelievably difficult to manage, and Numeral automates the process while keeping me in the loop. It feels so good knowing that they are monitoring our economic nexus, updating our Shopify tax collection settings, and filing on our behalf. Just keep in mind that you still have to review your settings and monitor for changes in physical nexus that Numeral might not be aware of.

I've been using Numerals for a couple of years now. It has been a huge relief on state tax filings. They take care of everything which gives me more time to work on the actual business itself. If you're pushing numbers on Shopify, I highly recommend using Numerals to stay compliant with each state.
