At the end of the year, we exported all of the information from QuickBooks and compared it to the orders in Shopify. Out of 1,629 orders for the 12-month period, 183 of the orders were missing (11%). Of all the orders, several of them were "multiple line item" orders, where the customer purchased two separate items in the same order. For a number of those orders, only the first line item was present, creating yet another accounting clean up. The app does not provide the costs of the transaction for payment processing (i.e. payment processing fees from Stripe, Paypal, Shopify, etc), and at the end of any financial period all of the revenue and fees need to be reconciled. This app restricts the access to income accounts, expense accounts, and balance sheet accounts such that new accounts had to be created in order to be able to comply with the limits. We used this app from 2015 to 2024. Over time, we began to understand the accounting side as well as the issues with the app. From our experience with it, we have not seen any improvement in the Application or the UI since 2015, and this is September of 2024. There is no sense making a product that is not continuously improved. As I have gotten comfortable with the bookeeping side of the business, it has become a growing priority each time we close the books to replace this app. Today, we removed this app from both our Shopify websites. The only good thing I can say about the app is that it does post sales receipts and refund receipts into QuickBooks rather than a journal entry. Many of the apps do the posting in Journal Entries. I did like that sales receipts were sales receipts and refunds were refunds. Overall, I would not recommend the app until Bold makes the necessary improvements in reliability and accuracy. Scott S. This product does not work as promised. It has been a daily source of frustration since installing it. Some issues of note: -Product inventory does not get updated from QBO to Shopify, so even after receiving a purchase order in QBO, our inventory constantly reads zero or negative in Shopify. We have plenty of stock available. This makes inventory counting impossible, renders reports meaningless, and makes ordering difficult. -Price and cost fields are not mapped properly: sometimes, the price in Shopify is mapped to the cost in QBO - resulting in selling items at cost if our staff doesn't catch the error. We have more than 4000 SKUs - it is impossible for us to catch them all. Sometimes no price comes through to Shopify, other times, no cost. -Vendor fields aren't mapped properly: the Vendor in Shopify always defaults to your store's name, instead of the vendor in QBO from whom you buy the product. -Because you can't map anything manually - you just have to hope that correct products are aligned - if you sell something through Shopify that hasn't been mapped properly, instead of selling a catch-all item in QBO, Bold makes a second item. Much of our inventory was therefore erroneously duplicated in both QBO and Shopify. -Sometimes the sync option would cycle through in an hour, but at least twice it got caught somewhere in the midst of syncing and would sit, partially completed, for over a week. -No customer service or help options were available for us to ask questions. The amount of time we wasted chasing down these issues has led to a loss of revenue and time. This is not the product for anyone who wants to successfully and efficiently run a business.
We are so sorry to hear of the troubles you experienced. I can confirm our team reach out in an attempt to help. We are always happy to investigate should any problems arise with our apps, either through ticket or live chat on our Help Center at support.boldcommerce.com.

I am exceptionally frustrated with the way this organization changed it's pricing and disabled features with little to no notice. I have been using BOLD to sync my Shopify sales to Quickbooks through their free integration for quite some time (not a limited time free trial). I received an email Thursday, June 29th stating the free integration will be phased out, and all must switch to a paid plan. No problem, I get it. Things can't be free forever. Problem is, this was the beginning of the 4th of July holiday and retail rush, and we could not make a change immediately. By July 1st - 2 days after reciecing the email from Bold - over a holiday weekend, no less - our integration ceased working. This is exceptionally disruptive to our business, and I am very disheartened by the lack of consideration and communication for their small business users.
Thank you so much for writing in with your feedback. We are sincerely sorry to hear that you were taken by surprise regarding the change in pricing for the app. Although we had sent our earlier communication, our team has noted your suggestion that it would have been helpful to send additional communications closer to the date. Again, we sincerely apologize for the disruption you experienced, we will certainly take this feedback to improve future communications. Thanks again for writing in.

Wouldn't recommend this app until the integration of taxes works better. When it brought over the tax from Shopify to QBO it put all the tax in PST and didn't split the GST out. Made for a big mess on my PST audit this spring.

I can not get QuickBooks to link with anything. It's near impossible to use. But it might be easier if this app actually worked.

If I could vote 0 stars.. I WOULD. For lack of a better word, this app SUCKS. It's the slowest things since dial-up and when you try to re-map or make a change with the sync, half the time it doesn't even load. I've been literally trying to switch a SKU mapping for two items. A SIMPLE AND QUICK TASK, and it has taken 3 days since the mapping won't load. And when it finally does, when you hit "edit" to change it, NOTHING HAPPENS. What a piece.

App does not work! It used to work then suddenly stopped. Recommend to stay away unless you want yore business mess-up.

This app stopped working back in November. Sent them several emails and they kept saying this is the first time this has happened and we're looking into it. If you look at other reviews apparently this has been happening for years, so it's not the first time, they should know by now why it stops working out of nowhere. They were no help at all and didn't fix the problem. I honestly don't even think they were working on it. I kept the app for months with hopes they would resolve it and even though it didn't work at all, they were still charging me my monthly fee. I recently got fed up and deleted it and moved on to another app that works and it's free.

One star, because zero is not an option. The purpose of this app to is to record your Shopify transactions in Quickbooks for your bookkeeping. The part where this app fails is that is posts your sales tax incorrectly on every order. Therefore, it does not fulfill it's purpose. It wasn't always like this. It was great until Oct 2020, when the sales tax stopped working correctly. Support doesn't care and does not answer when I ask if they have an intention of correcting this. Highly recommend the "QuickBooks Connector" by Intuit app which does a much better job, is accurate, and FREE with you QB subscription.

This app failed to sync my sales with QuickBooks properly for a year, leading to inaccurate VAT reporting and thus an unexpected £4k tax bill, all of which I paid for the privilege of having! Until then, was perfectly happy with this software but this change - which was never indicated nor is there a way to fix/change it - has made this a useless boondoggle.

For a YEAR now, my Taxes have not been syncing properly after an update from Bold. They acknowledged the issue yet still have not fixed it. I have spent more hours than I care to admit fixing the issue and manually updating everything in Quickbooks.

This developer has dropped support for Apple Safari. It will no longer sync with my Quickbooks Online on my Mac. Their only solution was to use Google Chrome, which is not an option for me, and honestly... it is a very lazy workaround. I have switched to the FREE plug in offered by Intuit (OneSaas). It is working better and... well, it is FREE.

App does not work well in Canada here are the issues that i have found so far 1. App does not work well with automatic discounts sometimes they get transfer to QB sometimes not 2. Taxes is a mess, sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. If you have different taxes lets say your product only charges GST but for Shipping you need to charge the whole HST or QST the app does not recognize this. 3. Taxes again, if your order has different types of taxes for different products, one is only charged GST other only HST, etc etc. Does not work either the app send to QB whichever rate they want. 4. Shipping taxes and discounts work sometimes. 5. It took me several months to notice this and i had to go one by one on my transactions in QB fixing the taxes that this app decided to put on each transaction (it was a mess) 6. Reached out to them for support and they only said that they are AWARE of some issues with Canadian Taxes, that was several months ago and at least as of today June 2, 2021 the issue has not been resolved. If your store is very simple with no discounts, promotions, automatic discounts, Taxes, then this app might work... but might only. Hope this helps to future customers

The app worked fine until we had an error over a tax setting. After 10 emails back-and-forth we are getting zero help from Bold. We find their support to be terrible across all their apps. And there are a ton of glitches and issues so they really do need to step up the help. We're going elsewhere.

This app worked fine for a year or so and then it just stopped exporting to QB. After numerous attempts for a callback with customer support, they only emailed me days later. None of the tech support agents listened to the actual problem and they kept passing me from agent to agent...each one more clueless than the last and it was obvious no one bothered to read the previous correspondence, wasting a ridiculous amount of my time. Possibly the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with for an app that's supposed to simplify my life. I will be looking elsewhere going forward.

What started out good ended up, eventually, with duplicated entries making the integration useless. Incompetent support and irregular support communication. Now I'm stuck with TONS of extra work to clean up sometimes 4 copies of the same sales record, but assured by their sr engineers "that's how it is supposed to work." DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I'm on the same boat as the others complaining about the Tax changes they made. The app doesn't work more than 1 week without having to call support for help to export stuck orders. Also, they say "If there is an error, you can export it manually to Quickbooks".. Well, I'm paying them to export it for me. Moreover, the app doesn't export orders with zero balance, say the order total is $100 but you give a discount to the customer of 100% = new total $0.. The app doesn't export it because the tax mess. I'm looking for a new app.

I have been using this app for over 2 years. Mostly I had not problems. Recently many orders were not exporting to quickbooks. I asked the app support people for help. They exported the stuck orders, all with incorrect tax codes. They weirdly added tax codes for each State in Australia. I never asked them to do this. It meant I had to manually delete around 300 entries in Quickbooks with 3 clicks for each deletion, taking me ages. I have since asked for a refund of my annual fee, with no reply, and switched to Bridge. It was a very easy switch and they back-exported (perfectly) all the sales the Bold app was unable to do correctly.
Thank you for your honest feedback - we are sorry to hear about the lack of communication from our end and would like a second chance to get you set up for success! We have confirmed that one of our experts has reached out via your ticket email, please keep an eye out and we are standing by to help!

I have been using this app for over a year, but recently something has changed and I get errors on every export. There are tax rate discrepancies between QB and Shopify and its made a MESS of my quickbooks. My accountant and I have been working to fix everything for days. Stay away! Do not use this app. (UPDATE) After reading other reviews, its very clear that this company has screwed over many other shops on this platform. How the hell does Shopify advocate for this company? How many small shops have lost hours of time or hundreds of dollars to accountants to solve the issues created by this trash? I am surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit against this app to compensate for lost accounting fees and time.

I have now deleted this app after 3 years of using it the incompetence of support unable to resolve an issue the lack of communication is appalling please be warned I have now switched to a new app I couldn't take dealing with this team anymore. *Update* Stay away from this app the issue is unresolved after 8 days was offered a call at a specific time never happened never got the call - I would strongly advise look at other apps first before this. App stopped working with an error on a few order exports contact BOLD support 4 days ago still no response. Have reported this to Shopify in the hope they can help me. If a company is promoting their applications but can't support their apps they should be removed from the app store. You would expect better than this.
