TaxJar Sales Tax Automation

Please stay away from this app, there are a lot of hidden charges that they won't tell you about it, they charged me $950 for filing $0 in returns no one has EVER told me that I will be paying this amount. This is a complete scam

missed tax payment ... showed them and they said they could file it in 6-8 weeks-- oh and I got a late fee

Update: After complaining to TaxJar, they did agree to amend one of my returns free of charge. Importing tax exempt order settings from Shopify is still an issue though, and I hope they fix it soon. Two huge problems with this app: 1) If you mark an order as tax exempt in Shopify, TaxJar will completely ignore it and will add it to your total owed. If you don't manually mark every order as exempt in TaxJar as well, you'll end up remitting more tax than you owe. 2) They charge $25 per state per filing, and their tax calculations have not even once aligned with Shopify's calculations for me. I'm spending way more time than I should trying to figure out where the discrepancies lie. If you want them to amend an autofiling, it's a $99 fee. In theory, if everything worked properly, it'd be great. Unfortunately in practice it has been more trouble than it's worth.

Support can't tell me why the total sales in one county do not equal the sum of sales in three cities located within that county. I'm just getting cut and paste replies that suggest I should inquire with my state's DOR. My return is being flatly rejected because of their faulty calculations. How could the state have an answer for Taxjar's unacceptable numbers? They've basically shrugged their shoulders literally telling me that Taxjar uses 'lots of tax logic'.

Beware about the subscription. It seems monthly but then you will know it's yearly and you have no way to cancel it.

Sorry, I tried this service out for 3 months and is has several shortcomings that prevent me from recommending it. I also recommend you do not pay for it a year in advance, if you cancel they will not offer a prorated refund. • There’s too much manual work involved in marking tax exempt orders to make it useful for me. There is zero automation for this. • No assurance that I could get shopify set up to charge the same sales tax that Taxjar's internal algorithm would compute. Taxjar integration is really one way, they compute accurate taxes on their end with their algorithm, and near impossible to get your store set up to compute the same rates. • Can’t use auto file because of the above differences and inability to automatically recognize exempt orders

DO NOT recommend this app. There is absolutely no way to get a hold of customer support and they never get back to emails. PayPal does NOT integrate with this app. Would not recommend to anyone. HUGE waste of money.

Look for a different app! You cant download a report. Dont contact support they are GHOSTS. I cant auto file for some reason...after paying $19 a month for nothing. Will cancel after I get my BOE filed.

Great! The AutoFile is great and I never have to even think about talking to government employees anymore!

It does the job well. I'd like to see a report showing sales tax collection revenue by day and I'm not using TaxJar for filing, but overall it works well and Customer Service has been excellent. TaxJar's customer service is light years ahead of Avalara's.

All of our info just disappeared from the system yesterday. Customer Service has been less than helpful. Not impressed and am looking for a new tax compliance company.

At $50/month, it did show me where I have economic nexus. After several months of $50 charges, I find out that they are delaying Auto-file as an option, but offer no concession in the meantime. I feel that the app isn't worth it just for the data, as I was sold on the auto-file option (at additional cost). This data isn't helpful without auto-file, so do your homework before signing up. You'll still need to file manually to take care of your sales tax due. This is potentially hundreds of data entries per state.

Best tax software out there! Not sure I could manage sales/use tax without Taxjar - have many states setup to autofile which saves a TON of time. Also, Taxjar provides a great knowledge base which is very useful for researching tax issues. Highly recommended!

Software does exactly what it should and customer service is excellent!

Great app but working with limited marketplaces - No good enough for me.

TaxJar is fantastic! Support is AMAZING! They helped us analyze almost 1 million orders across 3 stores (2 Magento and 1 Shopify). Easy to use and we highly recommend for stores of any size. They also have great tax articles on their blog if you're wanting to learn more about taxes.

Taxjar is worth every penny. By helping us put our US taxes on autopilot, we can focus time instead on our business. Autofile is easy to setup, and once you've linked up your Shopify or Amazon channels, it'll automatically start pulling in all the data and calculate how much taxes you owe. It's a no-brainer, and hugely helpful.

So nice to have the peace of mind knowing that TaxJar has my sales tax covered across all my sales channels. The customer service is also quick to and very helpful. This saves me dozens of hours each filing period. Money well spent.

Like Advil for taxes, Taxjar makes filing easy as can be.
