We use this app to supply free files which accompany bought physical products. It almost works but is very buggy and you have little control over customer notifications (it seems to send them at random). Downloads have also vanished at times and had to be created again. It generates too much customer service traffic, and after three and a half months of struggling with it, we're going to look for an alternative.

Unfortunately you can't develop in SAFARI with this app. It would be really nice if they would have said that and saved me an hour trying to figure that out. I haven't tried testing a download with Safari as yet. Let's hope it at lest does that.

Some Shopify apps will not work correctly in Safari, and this is often due to the cross-site traffic settings within the Safari browser. It badly misses the ability for users to re-download their files from their account page. It is such a hassle to keep having customers email because they can't access the links or lost the emails. If that would be added the app is definitely more than worthy of 5 stars!

This app is awful. I’ve had nothing but issues. The download links never work for my customers. It just sends them to a page stating that there is an error and the file can’t be found. I’ve reached out to shopify so many times about this issue and they aren’t helpful and keep telling me everything is fine. I’m losing customers. I strictly sell digital downloads and I cannot be expected to email each customer individually their items. It’s time consuming and inefficient. I’m looking for a new app to begin using because I cannot deal with this one anymore.

The app certainly does do the job and is relatively easy to use. However, I cannot give it 5 stars without the ability for users to re-download their files from their account page. Having to direct confused customers to hunt down an email they may or may not have anymore is a poor user experience. That's a glaring problem, and I'll likely need to find another solution for digital products if I can't sort out a way to modify the template myself.

It's a good app but unfortunately the links of the digital downloads are broken now. sometimes the links inside the form and inside the e-mails are missing a "/download" path at the end. Please fix it. I will give you 5 stars then.

I've been using this app for a while now and find it great. It is simple and does what's required and it's free, so I can't ask for more. The only issue I find is after uploading a pdf, the options are not available immediately but a simple refresh of the page and they are there. Support was great too when I needed help!

Am Anfang hat die App noch funktioniert. Jetzt kann ich nichts mehr uploaden und aus der Link Ansicht der PDF's komm ich auch nicht mehr raus. Schade, aber die APP fliegt raus.

So far, my customers are getting their downloads. I reached out to customer service regarding a server error I am getting on Safari and Firefox and that the app does not function properly on either of those browsers. They did ask for screenshots of the error message, which I just sent them. However, I don't believe they're going to fix the problem on either of those browsers based their responses so far.

This works well to add a single file to a product. However, it is exceedingly irritating to have to make adjustments on the variant level instead of product level. Ex, to change the fulfillment settings from automatic to manual. Or to add files - you have to individually add each file to each variant. I feel like there should be a tick box, or something in the general settings, to choose to make these changes on the product level. If digital downloads are a core piece of your business and you have a wide inventory, I would look at using another app!

Good while it lasted. I'm on the Shopify lite plan and only needed it to sell PDFs on my website. Now it doesn't work at all - just sends customers to a "this shop doesn't a website page". I've had to manually send my products to customers via email now. Very seriously considering alternatives to Shopify if this isn't fixed.

Thank you for reaching out about this and for writing your review. The Digital Downloads app is still compatible with the Lite plan, although the error you've cited may still occur if the download link is pointing to the non-existent online store. The delivery URL for the digital download will direct customers to a page that looks like part of the online store, although if you are on the Lite plan you won't have a store for them to visit. To avoid this, you can edit the email template for digital downloads and change {{ attachment.shop_url }} to {{ attachment.url }}. This change should mean the delivery link for the download will bypass the storefront entirely, and customers should be able to download the product successfully without seeing the error message.
