Of course, elaborate codes may experience problems when migrating to a new version. Especially if custom code was used. If this should be the case, the support helps out promptly and competently. Usually the update works without problems and with only a few clicks. Basically, a great service that other themes do not offer.

OOTS/Pixel Union has been great!! This app is helpful for updating your theme without needing to know all the ins and outs of theme management. I am not code-savvy so this was my go to and very helpful to catch my store up to speed. Customer service by Myles was phenomenal as well, providing clear and easy solutions to all my little edits and questions. Thank you SO much!

I have really liked my OOSB theme but this app and the support have been so bad that it has, unfortunately, really changed my view of Out of the Sandbox. Also, typically apps are priced based on their usefulness to the customer. How do justify charging $89 for an app that has low review ratings, poor functionality, and requires a significant amount of manual work on the customer's end?
Hi Ally Safety team! When updating your vintage Turbo v4.1.1 theme to OS 2.0, all content will need to be rebuilt. This is a one-time process required by Shopify to align with new templating standards. You will still be able to use the Theme Updater to help streamline your updates with future releases! With all of our Out of the Sandbox themes, you only need to pay once, and the theme license is yours - there is no additional cost to retrieve an updated theme version! The Theme Updater does have monthly and yearly subscription options. With the Free plan, you are always able to download the most recent theme version at no additional cost, and update manually. I spent a lot of money on a theme by Pixel Union A YEAR AGO to be told that now Out of the Sandbox is going to handle it. Which takes them forever to give support. The theme updater never suggested updates, I have issues, and support emails still come from pixel union, even though pixel union actually had useful information and articles on the theme, and now OOTSB only has links to articles? They tell me I need to update. Which means I now have to manually do it because god forbid something actually happens they way they say it will? I feel like I spent so much money to fall through the cracks. I don't know what game they are playing, but I swear I am going to find a new theme builder. It's such a mess. $320 down the drain.

The theme and service will not be fulfilled this year, I bought it two years ago. Now, upgrades cost extra money. Support tickets take longer to process. I quit. Bravo!

The Theme Updater does have monthly and yearly subscription options, but it does not look like you currently have a subscription to the Pro Plan of the Theme Updater. With the Free plan, you are always able to download the most recent theme version at no additional cost, and update manually. App recommended by theme developers. Very easy to use and does what it's designed to do. I had an issue at first shot of this (which I ended up solving myself) BUT the support team replied quickly given it was during the free trial, kept me updated about the progress of my ticket, and offered support in a friendly and jargon free way. My theme has updated and copied over brilliantly with only one little bit of code missing which is beyond the capability of this app (a niche widget!) But at least it shows you what the issue is and you can sort yourself/get developer to sort. I think many of the poor reviews on here are from people misunderstanding that this app is not designed to update from legacy to shopify online 2.0. For what it's designed for, it works very well (so far!!)

Just awful, no clear instructions on how to apply changes. There is a reason that this app has such low reviews. Only gave it a look as the theme developers suggested it. No idea what they were thinking.

This is a life-changing app that enables easy updating of a highly customised theme. If you've put in the work to update your theme version to an OS 2.0 version, this will make ongoing updates a breeze. Our experience has been incredible - we did not think it would work for us. There are a heap of negative reviews from store owners who would probably find value in utilising a third party to manage the development and ongoing maintenance of their store. But if you have a bit of a clue and keep your store and theme in good shape, this is probably a great solution for updating to the latest versions. Deserving of 5 stars.

An absolute MUST HAVE. I have been using the theme updater for several years now and it is the best way for me to upgrade themes. Be careful if you made custom changes to your shop or added other apps...Now that we are using Shopify 2.0 coding, most apps get attached to the new theme automatically, but some apps, that are not Shopify 2.0 upgraded, might have to be added manually. Otherwise, I really LOVE the app and the features it offers.

Themes are great support is still garbage after 3 years! Support is pretty non-existant. Tickets are not answered in a timely fashion. Always feel a lack of support. Theme got updated a few weeks back, and it has not been working correctly after the update. Still no response to ticket after 5 days.
Hi DucabikeDirect team! We’ve repaired the ‘clear’ function for the collection filters and confirmed this was a bug in that theme version. It looks like Theme Updater was used to successfully update to that version (just had a theme bug!). Revisiting the email thread, it looks like we received your initial email Wednesday afternoon and we provided our first meaningful reply by Monday. Our team patched the affected theme file for the repair and future theme versions will include the fix. We hope it is clear that this theme error isn’t due to Theme Updater’s performance in this case. All the best, Out of the Sandbox

Company downloaded without consent - this has been paid for several months without us knowing! AVOID
Hi Wedding Lux team! We recommend checking the Activity Log included in the “Users and permissions” area of your store’s Settings to find the source of the App Authorization. Our support team is unable to perform subscription changes to a store. As the Mobilia theme is no longer supported by Out of the Sandbox, Theme Updater is unable to update your theme. Looking back on our ticket thread, we addressed this issue with high priority and requested more information. We look forward to your reply and resolving this as soon as possible. TERRIBLE ! Complete waste of time alongside the TURBO app! Dose not work, theme developer takes too long to get back.
Hi Amanda Marcucci team! We’re revisiting your email thread and looks like our team requested access to your store within 10 hours. When access was granted, we identified a modified theme file and repaired it. The issues preventing your Turbo theme from updating were stemming from a third-party SEO app installed on the shop. The integration affected a critical theme file for Theme Updater compatibility (schema file). Unfortunately, a Shopify server error prevented you from confirming this repair. This app claims it'll update not only your theme but also update custom code + customizations within your theme. NOPE! The arrogant and unhelpful response from their support team has been a nightmare to navigate and update my theme. The app will "update" your theme and then list every single code file that wasn't able to update, after back and forth with support who then told me this was "never" a feature of the app, we started the process of manually going through each code file listed and updating the new code ourselves. Well we can't even do that now as after 2 hours the page with the list of files and their edits that can't be updated refreshes and you LOSE that directory/reference. The support response when I pointed this out (after being gaslit by them that this wasn't an issue for days) was "We'll have a look at fixing this... sorry." This app in USELESS beyond updating your base theme. You have to completely re-do your theme and any edits you have to it if you decide to use it. We've deiceded that if this is how long term support is going to act to their customers we are explore different themes with different developers and will re-launch that way (see as it will be the same amount of work if we decided to stay with our current theme or not). Not only do I NOT recommend this app I don't recommend ANY theme by Out of the Sandbox

You will still be able to use the Theme Updater to help streamline your updates with future releases. Although the Theme Updater does have the ability to transfer over customized code, customizing code can still result in some issues, and more complex customizations will need to be manually transferred over to the updated theme file. The app updater has been a great help for me. It does most of the work, and then I only have to fill in the special little changes that I've made to the code on my own. I had a technical question, and support got back to me quickly and clearly explained what I needed to do. Very helpful - excellent support!

Norm has been great for the support. Though you need to pay for subscription to update to the newest version after trial has expired. I guess this app is like a supplementary tool when you purchase the theme so don't expect it will do all the works for you.

This app makes me want to switch to a new theme company entirely. I (along with seemingly several other users) have an issue with Flex rendering on mobile crawlers, so google believes my site is not responsive. After emailing back and forth with them, their only solution was to install the updated theme. But, you can't download and update flex anymore without using their app. This app costs 80+ per year. If their theme doesn't work on mobile, then why would I be responsible for paying to update it? Out of the Sadbox used to be the best Theme providers, and now its just so terrible, and falling behind other apps I use on other sites.

Update: The issue is still not resolved. We've paid every month this year (and years past) but the app still says we are "unsubscribed" as of February. We've sent proof of payment to Out of the Sandbox multiple times. As per Shopify, our "unsubscribed" subscription is set to renew/charge us again on June 5th. We just want access to the app we've been using and paying for for years! /// Original: We've been using this app for years without issue. About four months ago the app said we were "unsubscribed" despite still being charged the monthly fee. We've been unable to update our themes since and are still being charged the monthly fee. Customer Support is non-responsive despite being provided proof of payment(s).
