NOT SUPER EASY TO OPERATE

★☆☆☆☆ Full of leftover code – causes serious issues even after uninstall I installed Yoast because of their name recognition, but it turned out to be one of the most frustrating decisions I’ve made on Shopify. After following their recommended uninstall process exactly (including contacting support first), I was shocked to discover that the app left behind multiple metafields and traces in my theme, which broke both my structured data and my sitemap indexing in Google Search Console. Even worse: The sitemap stopped working properly after uninstall Metafields labeled "Yoast SEO: Temporary definition" remained on every product Their cleanup tool did not remove them Shopify support confirmed this is a known issue among developers, and yet Yoast has taken no steps to properly fix it Yoast claims they don’t modify your sitemap or theme, but the reality tells a different story. If you care about SEO, do not install this app unless you're ready to spend hours fixing the mess it leaves behind. I expect much better from a company with Yoast’s reputation — and they should be warning users about these risks clearly upfront. Do not recommend. – Jonathan, hartwell.no From Shopify support: "Thanks again for your patience. As promised, I have worked here with our team to resolve this issue. Due to the bug that was caused by Yoast-SEO, Google cannot index the store properly thus affecting your store searchability. After carefully checking, we have come up to some changes on your theme code to force update the xml of your sitemap. As of the moment, this what I can see for your sitemap." - Tessa || Support Advisor Shopify
Thank you for sharing this, and we’re sorry for the trouble you experienced. We'd like to clarify that when our app is properly uninstalled (first deactivation and then uninstallation), it does not cause SEO or indexing issues and restores the relevant settings to their previous state. From our first interaction, we noted that multiple schemas were active (whether those were from another SEO app, custom code, or your theme) in the source code. In such cases, even if our app was deactivated before uninstallation, it’s possible the process was interrupted or could not complete properly due to that app’s code or other external factors, such as theme customizations, request limitations or a network issue. Unfortunately, we can’t know in advance how other apps or external factors may affect the uninstall process, but we’re always happy to assist further when our support team is contacted and provided with store access. Regarding the message from the Shopify support advisor, we’ve raised this directly to Shopify in order to investigate internally, as it may be based on a misunderstanding or incomplete information if the uninstall process was not followed or an interruption occurred. Our team will continue the conversation and provide updates via email, and remains available to help clarify and resolve any remaining concerns.

didnt support product star rating in product schema
Hi there and thanks for your review. We would like to clarify that our app does support star rating in product schema, as shared in our latest email to you. Since you are using a compatible reviews app, our app will automatically pick the related schema details from there and add them to the Product schema for rich search results, as long as there is at least one review left for that product, and the right settings in the reviews app have been set. Kindly reply to the email our support team sent, and we'd be happy to help or clarify further.

Don't use them. if you ever decide you would like to uninstall the app, all the work you did will be gone. All meta descriptions, titles, and the like will disappear leaving you a mess.fferent I want to change to a different SEO app and I'm too afraid to.
UPDATE March 27th: For clarity to anyone reading along, we wanted to provide some additional context. We previously reached out with a detailed explanation and offered a call to fully address any concerns. We understand that scheduling a call may not always be convenient, and we're always happy to assist further if needed. To reassure others reading, we’d like to clarify the following, which was shared in our original response: - When you uninstall our app, the optimizations you've made will remain intact, except for features unique to our app (as there is no fallback to Shopify) or elements added solely through our app and not Shopify. - Our app also includes an option to export SEO details, which can be imported into another app after making any necessary adjustments. We hope this provides helpful context for anyone considering the app. Thank you for taking the time to read. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re sorry to hear about the experience you're having. We understand there may be some confusion regarding our app and how to retain your work after uninstalling it, so we’d like to clarify things. When you uninstall our app, you can keep any optimizations you've made, except for details that are unique to our app (since for those there's no fallback to Shopify). In our previous communication, we provided instructions on how to preserve your work, but it seems those may not have been entirely clear. Therefore, our team will reach out to you via email to provide further clarification and guidance on retaining your optimizations. Additionally, if you're considering switching to another app, our app offers an option to export SEO details as previously shared, which you can then import into another app after making any necessary adjustments. Our team will include additional clarifications in their email as well. Lastly, we’d like to clarify that we did not respond sooner to your review, as Shopify reviews are typically visible within two days of being submitted. We appreciate your understanding and are here to assist further.

A poor tool, I paid for a year so I utilize it properly for a year. But I didnot work. Even I am getting more results with a free version on my wordpress. Waste of money and a very expensive also
Thank you for sharing your review. We take all feedback seriously and see it as an opportunity to both improve and clarify things. We can definitely imagine how it feels when your efforts do not bring the expected results. However, we want to address a fundamental misunderstanding: while the Yoast SEO for Shopify app is a tool that can help optimize your store for several SEO factors, it's important to remember that a green SEO score doesn't always guarantee top rankings or increased traffic. Even if everything is perfectly optimized, if that has been done for not the proper focus keywords or too competitive ones, the results can be underwhelming, and that is not related to our app's efficiency. In addition, there are several ranking factors, both on and off your website, that can impact your store's visibility and performance in search results, especially in a very competitive industry like the one you are in. A couple of these factors that are not related or affected by our app, is mobile performance and accessibility, where we noticed your store has significant room for improvement. When these factors are not optimized with related tools, then ranking and traffic can be affected, as best SEO results require a holistic approach. We have an article that dives deeper into this subject, but there are many other resources on SEO you may also refer: https://yoast.com/reasons-optimized-content-doesnt-rank/#utm_source=helpscout&utm_medium=email&utm_term=&utm_content=hs-l1&utm_campaign=support Regarding the results you are getting on a different platform using a free product, also in those cases there are more factors that play role, for example, the longevity (e.g. experience, expertise, authority and trustworthiness) of that site and accumulated SEO value during its existence: https://yoast.com/what-is-e-e-a-t/ In all cases, our team will reach out to you via email and see how they can offer help and clarifications on your concerns, even on subjects that are not related to our app. Lastly, we'd like to clarify that we did not respond earlier to your review, as systemically, Shopify reviews are visible within two days after being submitted.

UPDATE: ALTHOUGH i STILL HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE APP WAS INSTALLED IN MY STORE A YEAR AFTER I UNINSTALLED IT, AND I UNKNOWINGLY PAID FOR THIS APP FOR 1 YEAR - YOAST CUSTOMER SERVICE DID REFUND ME FOR 1 MONTH OF THAT TIME. I am not sure what happened and how the app was 're-installed.' Their 'goodwill' refund of 1 month I do appreciate. i installed Yoast when I first started with Shopify. It did not help my shopify store in any way that I could identify - so I uninstalled it. When I uninstalled the app, payments were no longer being withdrawn from my account. Then, about a year later, Yoast was mysteriously installed again into my shopify store. I did NOT install this app. I was unknowingly paying for this app for almost a year ( partly my fault as i was not paying attention to my shopify bills closely) I was paying for nothing. I then uninstalled again and contacted Yoast. Yoast claims that they would not be able to install the app in my store without my permission.
Thank you for sharing your review. We take all feedback seriously and see it as an opportunity to both improve and clarify things. First, we want to address a fundamental misunderstanding: Though our app offers some improvements out of the box and without needing to take manual actions on these, the most important parameters for improving your SEO are by optimizing content on a regular basis and performing careful keyword research. Without perseverance in SEO efforts and proper optimizations, it is not likely to achieve substantial SEO results. Regarding installation and charges, we'd like to make absolutely clear that an app installation through the Shopify app store cannot take place without the merchant's permission or specific code authorization. This is how the Shopify system works: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/apps/installing-apps#install-through-the-shopify-app-store When an app is installed, and as long it remains installed, Shopify's billing system will generate charges for it until the app is uninstalled: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps#subscriptions This applies to all subscription-based apps available in the Shopify App Store, as Shopify determines its billing system at its own discretion. More information about Shopify app charges can also be found in this Shopify help article: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps In addition, the reference to other reviews about charges, also have to do with the way the Shopify billing system works and how app charges are generated by the Shopify system, as clarified in the responses we provided in those reviews, and the Shopify resource shared above. In conclusion, there is nothing suspicious about the installation or charges, as our app abides by Shopify's system. If you are concerned about an installation that was not performed by you, please, reach out to Shopify's support for clarifications about your store's activity logs. Lastly, we'd like to clarify that we did not respond earlier to your review, as systemically, Shopify reviews are visible within two days after being submitted.

The features are really basic, they are clearly still focused on Wordpress. Even the paid version offers no automated improvements or even bulk edits for Alt tags!? There are definitely better apps out there, this is very average, actually below average
Thank you for sharing your review. We sincerely appreciate your feedback, though we are sorry to hear that our app does not meet all your expectations. While we understand you would like to have more options available in our app, we'd also like to address the points you raised specifically: 1. When it comes to the features available in our Shopify app and those in our WordPress plugins, we want to clarify that is it not a matter of platform focus. As WordPress is an open platform and Shopify is a closed one, there are certain restrictions/limitations when developing features, as we can work with what is offered by Shopify's API. We do understand editing alt text in bulk (besides the bulk edit options we currently offer) would be a useful option, which is why we have a feature request for this to be developed as a feature or an integration. 2. In regards to what our app offers to merchants as well as automated improvements, we understand our app may not match all merchant profiles and needs, so we want to clarify some of the main features our app offers. - Our app lets you optimize your content for your desired keywords (Focus keyphrase field). - The app will output product-specific structured data in the source code of your product pages. This helps your products get rich results in search engines, improving your clickthrough rate (stitched automated schema output). - The app automatically takes care of the technical SEO details (according to best holistic and content SEO practices and search engine guidelines in order to be less vulnerable to core search engine updates). - You can control and optimize how your search results look by letting you set your titles and meta descriptions and influence the search engine results. - You can also control how your products will look on social media when they are shared (Social appearance control). - Access to Yoast Academy premium online courses for you or your staff. Rest assured our team is doing everything possible in order to provide more features (including certain A.I. automations) and value in the near future, so you can get the most out of your existing subscription. Thank you again for sharing your feedback. We appreciate it greatly, as it will help us improve our app and better serve all our app users.

Doesn't handle sitemap. Also left a ton of code on my site. I need it removed but can't get a hold of anyone.
April 7 update: Despite our efforts to communicate so far via email with you in order to assist you with the matter, we have not yet received a response. So, we are adding this update as a last attempt to be notified through the Shopify review system. If you do see this update, please respond to our email so we can help you the soonest possible. Our support team remains at your disposal and would be happy to help. April 4 update: Despite our efforts to communicate so far via email with you in order to assist you with the matter, we have not yet received a response. So, we are adding this update in an attempt to notify you through the Shopify review system. If you do see this update, kindly respond to our email, and our team will be happy to help you the soonest possible. March 31 reply: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, though we're sorry to read about the experience you have. We understand how troublesome this must have been, so please allow us to address your points and concerns. First of all, indeed, our app does not generate a different sitemap, but there are options that can affect its content to a certain extent (for example, by not indexing certain pages). We have a feature request related to sitemap handling, so we'd like to thank you for your suggestion. Regarding the leftover code, this usually happens if the app is deleted without completing the two-step process (https://yoast.com/help/remove-yoast-code-from-theme-in-shopify/), which requires first deactivation of the app to remove our code from the theme, and then deletion of the app from the Shopify admin. Or if another (usually SEO-related) app interfered with the removal process. Fortunately, there is no need for time-consuming manual code removal (which we can do for you if needed) in this case, as this can be easily fixed with a simple reinstallation and uninstallation process. Here are the next troubleshooting steps to take: 1. Re-install the Yoast SEO app on your site. 2. Instead of "Get a subscription," click on "Remove theme modifications.". Please wait until the process is finished. 3. Click on Go back to Apps and then remove the app again. Once this is done, the Yoast SEO code should be completely removed from your theme files, but you can always contact us for any clarifications or further assistance if needed (from the beacon within our app or by sending us an email at [email protected]). As we could not locate a support ticket related to your Shopify account's email address, our team will soon reach out via email to see how we can help further on this matter, if you still need assistance. Lastly, we'd like to clarify that we have not responded earlier to your review, as systemically, Shopify reviews are visible two days after being submitted.

To be honest, this tool made my website worse that it was, the suggestions made by this APP were outdated and definitely not professional Edit: not only this app ruined my website by suggesting old / outdated practices about the SEO title, now I cannot change anything as the Yoast SEO will remain forever in the backend code of my online store, it's impossible to delete it even after deactivating the app as per their instructions, do not use this app, you can't ever remove it
April 4 update: we are adding this update in a last attempt to notify you of our follow-ups, through the Shopify review system and for visibility purposes. If you need any further assistance or can share more details, kindly let us know via email. Our support team remains at your disposal and would be happy to help in any way possible. March 31 update: Thank you for your update review though we're sorry to hear that you still have an unpleasant experience. We can understand how this can be troublesome so we would like to see how we can clarify things and assist you. Firstly, we would like to clarify Yoast SEO is in constant and direct communication with all search engines in order for our app to be always up to date and follow the best SEO practices and standards. However, we do take your update into heart and we look forward to your detailed feedback in our email so we can see how we can potentially make improvements. Regarding the code, we can see that there is no longer output coming from our app in your store's source code, but if you followed our process and you still see leftover code in your theme files, this may be due to an interruption of the process by another app possibly or theme structure. In all cases, we will soon reach out to you with an additional follow-up email and provide additional assistance. As soon as we receive a response and store access from you, we can have a direct look at your setup and fix any related issues. We're looking forward to your response and helping you as soon as possible. March 28 reply: Thank you for sharing your review, though we are sorry to hear about the experience you had. Based on your feedback, we would like to know more about what exactly happened with your site and why, so our team will soon reach out to you via email and address your concerns directly. Lastly, we'd like to clarify that we have not responded earlier to your review, as systemically, Shopify reviews are visible two days after being submitted. We're looking forward to hearing from you and helping as best we can.

Do not install it. After uninstalling, it removed the meta and title and put American Express everywhere. You will need support to get your shop back.
March 28 update: we are adding this update in an attempt to be notified through the Shopify review system and for visibility purposes. Based on our logs, we noticed that you followed the suggested uninstallation instructions on March 14, and your source code no longer has Yoast SEO output. We also checked your meta description and SEO title, and there is no reference to American Express, so the issue no longer occurs after the right uninstallation steps were taken. Please do provide your confirmation that this issue has been resolved or if you need any further assistance. Our support team remains at your disposal. March 14 reply: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, though we're sorry to read about the experience you had. i uninstalled it and they are still charging me and can't get them to stop so watch out
UPDATE November 30, 2023: Despite our efforts to communicate so far via email with you in order to assist you with the matter, we have not yet received a response. So, we are adding this update in an attempt to be notified through the Shopify review system. If you do see this update, please respond to our email so we can help you the soonest possible. Response sent on November 24, 2023: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, though we're sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, this is not related to our app but solely relies on the Shopify charging system and terms: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps#subscriptions , which apply to all subscription-based apps available in the Shopify App Store. More information about Shopify app charges can also be found in this Shopify help article: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps As you uninstalled our app just a day after the beginning of a new billing cycle, Shopify included a charge for it in their invoice, as it identified the app as still in use for an additional monthly subscription. We understand this is simply a confusion related to the billing dates, so our team will soon reach out to you in order to clarify things and help you with this matter. Please make sure to check your inbox and respond in order to resolve this the soonest possible. Lastly, we'd like to clarify that we did not respond earlier to your review, as systemically, Shopify reviews are visible within two days after being submitted.

Free version available?????????? you will be charged no matter what be awarded when you sign up for free is not free WILL COST YOU 19.99$ USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. MY RECOMMENDATION DO NOT USE
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, though we're sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, this is not related to our app but solely relies on the Shopify charging system and terms: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps#subscriptions , which apply to all subscription-based apps available in the Shopify App Store. More information about Shopify app charges can also be found in this Shopify help article: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/manage-billing/your-invoice/apps As you have uninstalled our app 23 days after the end of the free trial period, Shopify generated an invoice including a charge for our app. In addition, we'd like to clarify that our app does not have a free version but offers a 14-day free trial period, as you can see in our app listing and when at the check-out page. We hope this clarifies things, but our team will also reach out to you via email with additional details regarding the charge and dates of your subscription.

The app displays that it is safe to uninstall, but please take that with a grain of salt. After going through the theme's files, active Yoast code was found in the following sections*, even after deleting the app: - password.liquid - main-product.liquid - header.liquid - theme.liquid - main-article.liquid - meta-tags.liquid - yoast-seo.liquid * the code may be in even more areas than the ones above; perhaps Yoast can indicate where exactly its code is installed so anyone can double-check It's extremely difficult and time-consumingto remove code from website/theme after deleting the app, leading to massively damaged SEO. The problem we found: even after deleting Yoast, the code stays in your Theme file, and in our case was still active – pointing at empty data. It seems this app (Yoast) overrides the default Shopify theme code/settings when installed, then does not leave when Yoast is uninstalled. Web crawlers etc. are left reading empty values, which was destroying SEO results/data for the site. If you have deleted Yoast and found worsened SEO results, make sure that it is not still running in your Theme's code. Contacting Yoast takes up to 24 hours for each response. Overall, the app works, but after having tried multiple SEO apps, Yoast was the only one that overrode the theme's code and didn't amend the code when uninstalled.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, though we're sorry to read about the experience you had. We understand how troublesome this must have been, so please allow us to address your points and concerns. Based on the details of your review, we understand that there is/was leftover code in your theme files after removing our app. This usually happens if the app is deleted without completing the two-step process (https://yoast.com/help/remove-yoast-code-from-theme-in-shopify/), which requires first deactivation of the app to remove our code from the theme, and then deletion of the app from the Shopify admin.
Thank you for your feedback though we're sorry to read about the experience you are having. We understand there was some sort of a conflict after a theme update that led you to decide to remove our app, but code was left behind. Leftover code usually remains if the app is uninstalled without completing the two-step process, which requires first deactivation of the app to remove theme modifications and then deletion of the app. Or if another (usually SEO-related) app interfered with the removal process. This can be easily fixed with a simple reinstallation and uninstallation process (besides the following suggested steps, our support team will soon reach out to you via email in order to solve this as soon as possible). If you haven't already, please reference our page with Yoast SEO app uninstall instructions: https://yoast.com/help/remove-yoast-code-from-theme-in-shopify/ Here are the next troubleshooting steps to take: 1. Re-install the Yoast SEO app on your site. 2. Instead of "Get a subscription," click on "Remove theme modifications.". Please wait until the process is finished. 3. Click on Go back to Apps and then Remove the app again. Once you've done this, the Yoast SEO code should be completely removed from your theme files. In case you have another SEO app installed, it would be best to remove that first before proceeding with the steps above, as other SEO apps may interfere with the proper uninstallation process of Yoast SEO. As aforementioned, in any case, our support team will soon reach out and provide any further assistance you may need to resolve this.

Not Happy with this app at all and the cost just doesnt justify anything. I already am familar with SEO and thought this might help improve but instead of helpding boost SEO, it rather deranked my site position on google. It has nothing but just a bunch of knowledge book regarding SEO- which are freely available but they make it a point to charge free content. Seriously this is not worth the cost and they should just get out of shopify and stick with wordpress, it does more harm than good.
Thank you for your feedback; we are always on the look-out to see where we can improve. We are sorry to hear that the experience with our app was not what you expected. When using Yoast SEO and you notice that it has an impact on your ranking in an unexpected way, please know that support is ready to look at the situation with you. We are more than happy to have a look and see where we can help you.

TOAST! That's what this app should be called — because that's what it will do to your site — turn it into TOAST. After loading this bug filled destructive app to our site we started getting ERROR messages from Google (which never happened before). This poorly constructed app wrecked our SEO Schema. But wait it gets worse... Look under the hood. The Yoast app fills your site with asset after asset — which will slow your site down. To remove Yoast, you will need to surgically remove multiple assets from your site code to restore your site to a pre-Yoast condition. Avoid this app at all costs if you care about your SEO and/or your website. This app is NOT ready to be released on Shopify. RESPONSE TO THE DEVELOPER'S REPLY BELOW: Thank you for reaching out. Sadly though, this is a case of a company trying to varnish over a flawed product. This app is terrible / from the way it handles meta description editing, to the way it messes up SEO schema, to the glut of code rubbish it injects into the site... This app is simply not a stable or suitable product for Shopify sites. And based on the ratio of low ratings on the Shopify App store, I'm obviously not the only one who feels this way.
Thank you for reaching out and your feedback. We are sorry to read that you are having this experience. In our latest release, we have changed the way theme modifications are being handled after an uninstall as we were aware of these causing problems for some of our customers. Currently, when uninstalling our app, theme modifications will be disabled. Since not all of the code will be removed, there are instructions on how to clean up after an uninstall (https://yoast.com/help/remove-yoast-code-from-theme-in-shopify/). In this case; since you are still in the trial period, if you install the app you can press the 'deactivate Yoast SEO' found in 'settings' to help to disable the theme modifications for you. About the errors you are experiencing, we will reach out to you by mail to help us clarify what you are experiencing and see if we are able to help you out.

Thank you for your feedback and for giving our app a spin. Putting in the effort and then losing your work sucks, we feel you. Fortunately, part of your work is still there; the product descriptions you have optimized through Yoast SEO have been copied to Shopify and remain even after uninstalling the app. That being said; we will take your feedback to heart to improve our communication.

When an app is uninstalled it should revert the site back to its original state without any effort by the user. We have now spent a few hours cleaning up the mess that was left. Modified files are left for you in their modified state. The backed up files are there, however you will have to spend plenty of time reverting the original file back to its original state.
We're sorry to hear about your experience and we understand how unnecessarily time-consuming this has been for you. We thank you for sharing your feedback with us and know how important it is to get everything back the way it was. We're going to look into ways of improving this. For others reading along, we have a button in our app that automatically removes all theme modifications (see https://yoast.com/help/remove-yoast-code-from-theme-in-shopify/). If you've already deleted our app, there are also manual instructions on how to remove them. Sadly, this is not something we can automatically do after deleting our app but we're looking into improving this as best we can.
